front axles

I've got a 83 blazer I replaced front axles in and u-joints.
For the second time now the u-joints keep popping out and they catch on the ball joint nut and sheer the axle. Anyone had similar problems please help?

Did you install the snap ring on the end of the stub axle before reinstalling the locking hub?
