Hi,

So I have determined the rotating noise that I have been plagued with for a while. It's indeed coming from the front and it's the passenger side's brake pads. It appears that one or both pads have lost their spring on the back.

While trying to keep my available 'work' time was efficient as possible, I have been trying to get the pads before I tear into the repair. I was hoping that they went by the RPO code, but apparently the front pad size is based on what the rear drums are. At least that is what Napa and AutoZone is wanting to know ...

Well I don't know what my rear drums are, since I have rear discs now. :roll eyes: ... I never thought to measure the rear drums when I did the conversion.

Anyone else have JB7 brakes ... and if so, what size is your rear drums? 13" or 11 5/8"? I don't want to just assume that JB7 had the bigger rear brakes. I think they do but need a second opinion.

I know the worse case scenario is that I will just have to take the old pads to local store to determine but I was hoping to get ahead since my local Napa has to order the pads that go with the matching rear 13" drums.

Thanks in advance.

All of the 1/2- and 3/4-ton axles use the same size pads, the D52 style.

I'd tell them the rear is the 13", pick a nice semi-metallic and be done with it.

the real difference is the caliper bore in the front on true 3/4 ton stuff. little bigger pistion size in the caliper over 1/2 ton size .

rear is bigger and master might be little bigger in bore also .

Big Blue is right. And yes, the JB7 is the 13 inch drums. When I bought my truck, the PO included an extra set of brake pads, and they fit just fine when I swapped over to 3/4 ton hardware.
