Front D60 which one, 70 / 30 split time pavement / dirt(trails)?

Is there any way to remove the bearings without one of those high speed bearing pullers?

Is the TT available for D60's? If so, I'd go this route because the PL uses clutches and using the TT is one less thing to worry about since its all gear.

Awesome! I remember way back in the day (yeah, yeah, I'm that old!) the TT wasn't available for D60's so I let that dream go. Now it looks like its been revived and available now. Thats cool as I'd rather have this than the PL.

Yeah, I placed the order for one and an install kit. This 60 has been sitting my shop for far too long.

Need to look at a case spreader and bearing puller now. I don't really want to buy the tools for a one time install.

You can get by without a case spreader by using pry bars instead. It'll work just fine.

2 big prybars and a bearing splitter will do it just fine. The bearing splitter is a pain to use but effective nonetheless.

Also the bearing splitter has a very good chance of messing the bearings up, so being careful pulling them off is imperative, so you can make setup bearings out of them

If you have to spread the case to get the carrier out and use prybars instead, what do you use to spread the case to get the carrier back in?

1/4 stick dynamite w/ percussion barrier to aim it into the case?

Well, now I need to find out how much it would cost to have the damn thing installed and set up if I just bring in the housing and the carrier vs just buying the bearing puller. If the install is going to cost as much as the puller then I'll just buy the damn puller.

Well I figured I'd give it a try first.

I was able to remove the carrier bearings without destroying them!!! :waytogo: I did however crush a couple of shims. No worries, I have the master install kit. The big deal is I got them off without the $400 puller and I can now ream them out and use them as setup bearings!!!

I used a crappy harbor freight puller. The trick is to grind down a small amount of the bearing splitter so it doesn't make contact with the outer part of the bearing!! You can see where I ground down the splitter in the green circles and the green dots are the part of the bearing that it would hit on. To make sure you have removed enough of the splitter keep turning the outer part of the bearing while you tighten down the splitter. If the bearing starts to bind up you need to grind down the splitter more.

In this photo, item #6 pinion baffle, my axle didn't have one in it. Is this ok or should I get one? Or is it just needed in high pinion 60s?
