So i'm putting a dana 60 in the front and of course, want it locked...

No here's my thoughts...:doah:

A detroit with install is about 700 bucks...

A Twin stick for the 205 is only 200 bucks...;)

If i weld the front up (make it a spool essentially) and run a twin stick to easily engage/disengage the front axle... will this work ok for trail use?
On road, the hubs would be un locked so on-road is not a problem...

But off road, trail use, will i notice a problem turning with it lincoln locked, even with the front disengaged if need be?

The hubs locked means when you are moving forward the axle shafts are still spinning. Hence it will still be hard to steer. If you have full hydro steering I say go for it, if not I say no. Unless you have a freind who likes to ride shotgun and jump in and out to unlock a hub when you need to turn sharp

depending on your tire.. buy a lunch box locker, install it yourself and do the twin stick.. and your still under 700:D

If your hubs are locked in the front end will be hard to steer, period.

Detroits generally free spool when power is not applied to them.

I would also recommend a lunchbox locker. Aussie is supposed to have one for a D60 this spring.

Mine is welded and with no hydro assist was almost impossible to turn when it had traction. As was said even with the hubs locked and the tcase in 2wd it would chirp and bounce around the corners on pavement. If I had the money I would go detroit but welded was free:D.

If you have a spare set of gears you could weld it and if you do not like it you could put the open gears back in.

Check my write up here.

Well it sounds like welding is out of the question then...

Don't need a work out just turning my rig...
Besides that would require two hands.. how would i hold my beer...

I'll just wait for a locker....

You make a holder on a rope around the neck to hold the beer! Or try out the beer holding hats!

Blink as fast as you can (for the subliminal message):eek1:.

not to hijack, but i have a question about the twin sticks. Ive seen them and how does it work? for the tcase right? Why have 2? Sorry. thanks

Love my detroit.... with the hubs locked and in 2wd... yes it does bind a bit.. but as if coasting into a turn the detroit "unlocks" or wratchets.... well with the tcase in 2wd and front locked... it does the same thing..
I was trying to do donuts in this...

either way lock the front...
you can see such a difference... the next truck is as big as mine.. and he got stuck... I came up right behind him.. stood on my hood and handed him the strap... then I pulled him out..unfortunately in reverse.. I hate pulling in R but he was taking on water.. and it was still running....

by twin stick you can have 1 stick for front axle and 1 for rear axle.... so say you need to make a tight turn.... hold brakes (or put rear lineloc on) turn the wheel and disable the rear brakes and hit the gas... the back will hold and the power goes and the front can turn HARD!!!!! alot of the new rock cralwers have it for this reason

I welded mine, and even with hydro assist I hate it. I can turn the wheels just fine, but it wants to push forward when both hubs are in.

I just can't afford air lockers for it yet, so I run with 1 hub unlocked when I need to turn.

I noticed that also and can blip the throttle with the wheels turned and it will come right around. It is not always feasible but it works.
