Front Dana 60 - to weld or not to weld

Full hydro on mine, welded front. Seems to work OK so far. Haven't had the opportunity to wheel it much yet though.

ok ok im bringing this one back up but im trying to look at everything...my plans change on a hourly basis (lack of money) here is what i want to do remeber my truck is a trail rig

weld my front end
run crossover and hydro assist
drive flages (35 spline)

im on 44s and i plan to put a good locker in later so how hard is steering gonna be with a welded front axle and flanges

Just like it would be with welded and lockouts, it is tuff. The problem with flanges is that even when you are in 2wd the front axle will act like it is in 4wd as far as steering is concerned.

I personally would recommend against welded and flanges unless it is trail only. I would say just run your lockouts until you can afford a locker then swap the hubs for flanges.

the problem with that is im upgrading to 35 spline...i dont want to buy a new set of warn prem hubs for 35 spline when im just gonna run flanges in the future...i could pull on flange out and put it in at the trail head...anyone know who makes the 35 spline flanges that the cover can still go on with the gear out??ive seen them before

I have warn flanges and take them out and put the cover back when it is a long trip to the trail

i thought bout welding mine til i can get the money for a detroit, since i plan to get a detroit for the rear, but now im thinkin i might just weld the rear and get the detroit up front first and eventually get a detroit for the rear when funds allow
