How much deflection should be in the front drive shaft when grabbed and pushed up and down? Like when you are laying under the vehicle and doing it? I am getting a odd noise in 4wd when going uphill and uneven terrain. But only when going up. Flat surfaces and down is no problem.

Check the trans & motor mounts, i had a scraping noise when going up hills once, turned out they were wore out & flattish, still holding, but flat, that flatness set the front driveshaft closer to the crossmember and when everything torqued & twisted the CV part would rub on the crossmember alittle.

Mine has a pretty decent amount of play, i can't drive it more than about 40mph before bad vibes set in,

I think that might be it. I have some fresh rub marks on the cv part where it contacted the crossmember. I guess it doesnt help that the PO tweaked the crossmember backward because he got it stuck on something.

Yes, that does it too, now that i remember this, i think that was another reason mine rubbed, i also bent mine back alittle, well, back, up, sideways, twisted, all of the above :tongue1:

Yeah mine is angled backward. Do you know if the crossmember from another year truck (mine is a K10) will fit. I hate the 86' crossmember it hangs way to low. Also how do you go about fixing the bent frame? I was thinking maybe a torch and sledge and then reinforcing it with 3/8 steel plate.
