I’m Headed to Nebraska next week and I’m taking my wife’s 2017 1794 Tundra and the 18’ trailer, so she gets to drive the Suburban for a week. She took it today for a test and I was brutally attacked on why is there so much play in the steering. I’m used to it but now it needs to get fixed. Where do you all go for a complete rebuild for the steering? Moog has a kit for about $400, I’ll probably need a steering box and steering shaft as well but I’ll do all the linkage first. Its a ‘91 V2500 stock height with 32” tires.

Don't try to replace everything at once. First get under there and see what's loose. Lots of recent threads on it. Let's say the frame is cracked - that kit isn't making any progress. Especially leave the steering box alone until it's proven loose. Some of the remanufactured units are really bad.

Yes and keep your old box until you know the rebuilt is good or better, when if you do swap boxes.
Is my practice to pay core charge and and keep my stuff until new unit is proven good.
More than once I have put the old part back on cause it was better than the part store "rebuilt"

We just went through and did the, wiggle the wheel while I check stuff, test. There is a little bit in the steering shaft, and I already ordered the Jeep one, but most of it is in the steering box. I'll get with Red Head and see their price, I adjusted this one some but that tends to make them drag more. It has 182k on the odometer but the odometer doesn't work so I'm guessing in the 250K range so it all needs replaced anyway.

So RED Head has been hit or miss lately we peps here, I am guessing you will need to order it wait for it to ship and then install and see if it's good ?
If there is a problem it will need to returned and what ever Red Head decides to do.
If it were me, I would try local Napa or Car Quest unit, if it is a bad unit then easier and quicker to return and possibly get another, I am sure if they have square K box on the self they only have one. They may even need to order from their local warehouse the 1 st time.
If the local guys are not an option then go for the Red Head, I personally don't have any experience with them. Been fortunate to have a decent box in my truck and know good back from my previous k20.
Did you get a good look at the frame where the box bolts up ? No cracks?

The pitman is tight in the output shaft ?

Also test it at high load. You might not notice the springs shifting or that cracked frame until you get to the end of travel.

Blue Top steering gears are good on the Ford super duties. Not sure what they offer for squarebodies.
