Were they any companies that made a bolt on front hitch for 73-80 chevy trucks. If so what comanies, and how hard would it be to track down a used one?

I don't know if you'll be able to find it not being a member, but Dontoe did a nice write up on a home brew receiver for the front.

I've never seen one. Doing it yourself is it.

It's just hard to point you to the info you need is all. Lots of info, and $25 bucks is a steal for the year worth of info I have recieved. And the deals and friends made factor into that as well.

As far as I know it's a make it yourself situation on the hitch.

i am gonna hijack my own thread.

I am going to a swap meet on saturday. do you think i will be able to find any winch bumpers? and cheap winches? or is it not a good idea to buy a winch from a swap meet?

No one is giving you crap, pay if you want to, don't if you don't. You could probably find it if you look hard enough. I'm pretty sure it's buried here in the garage section. Had something to do with a receiver tube and two "crossmembers" running to the frame on both sides. He cut a 2.25" square hole in the front bumper to go through. I'm pretty sure it was bolted in. The screen name is Dontoe, and it's a very good write up.

As for a winch, know what features you are looking for and what brands you are interested in before you start talking cash at a swap meet. Make sure you have the seller demonstrate whether or not it works. You never know what you'll find at a swapmeet. I know I just picked up a dirty 8274 for $300, that cleaned up right nice and is 100% operational. Only took an extra $8 to buy lugs to build cables for it.

If you have a weld just make it yourself. I did mine in about 3 hours for under 40 bucks.

Oh, here's mine...................and how easy it is to make! Link!
