Not really, I tried for a while to weasel that thing in there.
Those ears don't really do anything, that's probably why they got rid of them on 81-up trucks, every little cent/vehicle counts to GM.
Without cutting the hitch or the ears off, it's not going in there.
I'm pretty anal about cutting up stuff too, I wouldn't hesitate to cut those ears off though. I've analyzed it fairly well, they don't do anything.

I have no idea whos truck this is. i jsut found this in my pictures. its gotta little ebay camera. i was think it might of been someones on here not sure though

Does anyone know how strong these pushbars are for winching?
I have a Warn push-bar style bumper on mine that looks just like the picture you posted. It came with the truck when I bought it, but it's prooven to be pretty sturdy. I've run several double line pulls hooking back into the bumper instead of the factory hooks and it has held up fine. There are 1/2" thick brackets on the backside of the stock bumper that tie the winch bumper to the the frame. The factory bumper brackets probably would not be strong enough. One thing I like about the setup is how high the winch is, which helps with approach angles and keeps the winch motor out of the water and mud. My old winch bumper mounted the winch at the same level as the bumper, which proved to be a problem with only 2" of lift up front and 33's.
