i was going to run some metal through my bumper then bolt it to the frame and drill a hole in it to run a shackle through, now my question is i was thinking about useing 1in plate a peice about 14in long 3 in wide u guys think this is overkill?

You could try to find some stock towhooks. They come up on here for sale every now and then.

I think fred2mihi is using a stock bumper with a setup similar to what you are talking about. You could PM him for info.

I was thinking of a front 2" receiver. Then I could use a shackle, or a winch.

youo just need the shackle mounts off of a m1009 cucv, its the military blazer. they bolt to the frame and run throught the bumper. they are meant to lift the vehicle with, so you wont break them.

Uh they are NOT designed to lift the vehicle. They are designed as tiedowns and can also be used as pull points. The military used them to tie them down on the trailers and railcars when they would transport them.

I have them on my truck and would not expect them to hold the 5250# that my truck weighs in a verticle pull. They do make excellent pulling attachments though.:D
