front wheel bearing destruction

I just had to replace my front inner and outer wheel bearing, second time in a year. I was talking to another k5'r and he had the same problem. What gives? Is this a known defect on our beloved beasts? Much like the frame cracking at the steering box!!

I would have to say no, its not a defect or known bug. With quality bearings such as Timkens, and proper installation, they will last for many years/miles with regular maintenance.

I bet you are torquing it too much.
I did that and destroyed it in a few weeks, then learned the right way and never had a problem after that.
