Something in the formulation of modern pump fuels attacks the foam. If you take the foam out, then you no longer have any baffling and will experience starvation issues when at an angle.

The problem is that when you buy a cheap fuel cell you get cheap foam. Step up to an ATL or Fuel Safe cell and you'll get much higher quality foam. Even then the foam does have a definite life span.

i read somewhere that you can yank the foam and put in perforated / slightly crushed plastic milk jugs and use them for baffling. kinda funny soundin, but it might work.

There are quite a few old vehicles that had fuel tanks inside the interior, in fact the front passenger basically sits on the tank in my stock '71 FJ-40.

wonder if the old holy-milk jug thing would work ok though... i mean, the foam is just in there to keep things from sloshing around to the point where the fuel pump is sucking air instead of fuel right? seems like it would work. wonder how milk jug plastic is (longterm) with low grade gas... have to ask my dad I guess. Don't use milk jugs, they will get brittle. Use 1 quart oil bottles with the bottoms cut out and no tops.

good idea.. the plastic on them is quite a bit heavier and they are smaller too... easier to get in the cell. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif cram enough of em in there and maybe those thin/cheap poly fuel cells would deform so much. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

More importantly it's also a plastic formulation that will stand up to constant contact with refined petroleum products. Milk jugs wouldn’t last more than a few months (my guess) before starting to break up.

thinking about the oil containers... for this app shouldnt u put some "speed holes" in the body of them or something? Doesnt seem like just being topless/bottomless would be enough. any1 actually do this in their cell? pros/cons? I'd really like to run a poly cell... but the foam and the way they deform so easily kinda sux...

Holley has some cool new multi-point pickups and you can put one in each corner if you want. You should still put some basic baffles in it though so you don't have to listen to it slosh all over the place.
