i will be buying an 80 sub with a 400 and a bad carb, then buying an 88 with a good fuel injection and a dead motor. is it possible to install the fuel injection on the 400 to make a good running fuel injected 400?

Yes but you will need to modify the intake manifold for the different bolt angle on the 4 center most intake bolts, then you will also need to have a chip burnt for the engine size and such. 400 needs more fuel and different timing curve than a 350.

I agree with this, but you'll probably also have to raise the fuel pressure using an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

This is an easy conversion, but could take a little time with all the fine tuning.

you can just use a TBI to spreadbore adapter to mount the TBI unit on your carb intake.....the carb ones flow better anyway. A chip will definitely need to be burnt though, a step to the 454 TBI may be a good idea too.

I had a TBI 406 in my old truck, and did nada to the fuel or computer. It ran like a raped ape, gobs of torque, and no check engine light. I'm sure it would have run alot better if I did some of those mods. You can either swap the heads for the TBI heads, or enlarge the center two holes, the TBI are at a different angle than the older style. But they will work, seen it done.
