Fuel Pump Hanger Length

just sat in the new fuel pump hanger with out spinning that SS O-ring to secure it to the fuel tank.
When I push down lightly on the center of the fuel tank, the sending unit lifts up immediately.
When I spin the SS O-ring to secure it to the fuel tank and push down lightly, the top of the tank doesn't move at all.

Fuel pump hanger length is to long, correct?
the new hanger is approximately 1/2 inch longer then the stock hanger I took out.

I am pretty sure you need to bend the curved are a little to match the length of the old one.
The newer style tanks have a spring loaded setup so it self adjusts, I like them better
