Fuel Tank Relocation on DD 89 Sub

I have 89 Sub and the gas tank is between the frame rails in the rear. I am considering doing something different with that space, but in order to make that happen I would need to relocated the fuel tank.

I would like to try and use stock Chevy parts as much as possible.

So what would my options be?

Saddle Bag tanks? What years? If these were from a Carb truck then how to I deal with the EFI?

Inside the frame rails or outside?

Dual Tanks?

Any ideas, cautions, suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I think its all gonna be custom. you might could use some short 16 gal tanks under the sides, the tbi sending unit will work in the regular tanks. otherwise, you could do like me, i'm going to use a 57 chevy truck tank between the framerail and driveshaft on the driver side. thats the only thing I've found that would fit thats stock, or anywhere close. what are you gonna do with the normal tank space?

Well I am thinking about one of these...

OR Actually one of these... cause it hides away better...

Cause it looks like this when stowed...

The only mod that I plan to make is to add a reciever to the tow unit so that I can still haul a trailer... AND... I can level the trailer no matter what!!!

This is just an idea I have. Time will tell if I go this direction.

Oh and the unit needs to go where the fuel tank is now so that is why I am looking at relocating it.
