I have an 86 K5 with auto hubs. I've been told it's full-time 4WD. I thought it's only in 4WD when I lock it in. Am I missing something?

You were lied too. If it was full time it would have no hubs at all. Just a chrome cover over the hole.
The last NP203 full time case rolled off the line in 79. In 80 all trucks went to part time with NP205 cases. In 81 they dropped the 205 in the 1/2 tons and went with a NP208 case. If your truck is full time then it had a older case swapped in. The case you have should be all aluminum. If it was a 203 or 205 it would be cast iron. The 203 has long Aluminum tail shaft that looks like a Pylon.

Hey Johnny Reb, Do you know which transfer case you have in your outfit?

I've got the 203. Is there one that's stronger than another? I'd like to know, thanks

I'd say the all gear NP 205 is the strongest. The NP 203 is not too far behind strength wise, but many people don't like the full-time case. After these 2 its probably a toss up between the NP 208 and the NP 241, both aluminum T-cases.
