Gage cluster ?

this is my set up, i really wish i could have fit the gauges without the chrome piece but i may take it back out and paint it black to match

That actually doesn't look half bad. Paint it black definitely though.

DJ,

When you say that you found one at a Pick and Pull why not take the gauge cluster and cut off about six inches of that harness. That way you can match up the color coded wires correctly.

There's also a quartz clock option which keeps surprisingly good time. That fills the fourth hole, and looks better than the hole being empty.

I went the factory tach cluster method, but made some changes as opposed to the method in the post 43 link above. It was quite a process and won't go into it unless someone asks.

At least for oil and temp, shouldn't need to cut any wires on the connector plug end. Wiring is already on the engine block, just need to get the correct senders, connectors for the senders, then move those wires on the instrument panel connector to the correct location for the new cluster.

Be aware that there are at least 4 different gauge cluster pinouts on the instrument panel connector (and probably a lot more than that) so don't try to just plug it in without being 100% sure. At best you'll blow a fuse. At worst, like my buddy installing a tach dash without taking the time, you'll destroy the cluster.

I think I will take the time to adapt the stock dash with gages. I like the look. I am just not sure of the wiring. I will just have to figure it out when I get there. I am in the middle of swaping my D60 and 14 into the blazer. I have some issues to figure out with that first. I am trying to have it all ready for sierra trek this year. I keep missing it for some reason.

How hard is it to replace the fuel gauge with a tach and put a smaller fuel gage in one of hte small gage spots?

That is a good idea! That is what I will do. Are those the Sunpro gages from autozone?

I have an idiot cluster in my garage , came off 4 speed 83 we cut the rusted body off before making a truggy . Not too rare , seen all the time .

Anyway printed circuits go as follows :

no guages 73-75 same , 76-87 same

with gauges no tach 73-750 same , 76 with one light , 76 with two lights , 77 , 78-80 same , 81-90 same

with gauges and tach 73-75 same , 76 , 77 , 78-80 same , then 1981 .

so did you put the older model speedo in there also?? I had one of those in my '84 but every other truck has the 85 mph speedo in it. I like it

did the same thing with the gauges myself. You can just barely make it out but they fit pretty nice against the bezel

A couple of things I did, which I think are worth the time and trouble, are to use gauge faces with the same font and repaint all of the instrument needles with fluorescent orange paint. It makes the whole cluster look like the Blazer left the factory with it, as opposed to having been retro-fitted with it.

While I prefer the newer style font, the tachs were made with the old style and, in my opinion, it looks better if they're all the same.

I'd like to see pics of your dash man...

shaun love the set up, but how do you like the red? to me that would kinda be hard on the eyes but it may just be the way the pic was taken. looks great though

Red's actually easier on the eyes at night than any other color. That's why most OEM dashboards are either green or red. Green has just gotten the majority nod due to aesthetics.

buff, I think it's Duplicolor that makes some textured paint that might hide that chrome really well and have it match the dash plastic better than just being black alone.
