Garage reformat

Come over to my place so I can have that premium look.. I want everyone to think I'm pro too!??

Like your idea Greg but wouldn't I have to cover everything in there to spray the ceiling?

I really need to use some vacation time to get some work done in there starting with K5 top back on (another post) and getting my wife's 67 C10 turned into a roller so can push in and out when needed since limited on space!

If you lived in North Denver, i would tell you to just leave the door open at night...

:haha:

Just move to Durham,NC shooting everyday and theft like no tomorrow. That is why I live outside city limits, mind my own business, and have a alarm on house and garage plus dead bolts. Trust no one!

Drop cloths and roll it.

Yeah, just drop cloths and a roller with a long extension pole.... You can probably reach over all the crap in the way to get the painting done. It won't be as simple as painting an empty room but it's doable.

Get as close to the sidewalls as you can with the roller....later on, you can sneak between the tools and debris and cut in with a regular brush.

The first coat will really soak in fast and you'll go through a shocking amount of paint. But that will seal the wood and dry fast. You can cover it again in about a hour and the color will get a lot more uniform.

KILZ is a high-solids paint, so you really need to stir it well to get all the gooey pigments off the bottom of the can and into suspension with the rest of it.

Take before and after pics.... :)

Damn you guy's have some clean garages! Mine has 3 cars apart in it plus all tools. Trip every step you make almost!
I wish I had that problem. Lol I barely fit my Blazer and bike in the garage and have room to walk. I like the side shelf overhead idea. I've got two fridges That need to be moved out of the garage as Well. That'll give me a huge bump in space.

Nice organization. I chuckled a little bit at the "FRAGILE - GLASS" box stuck at the bottom of the box pile. But I like what you've done here.

That box has the driver and passenger side wing windows for the front doors. They're a replacement because my driver side has a broken lock. I just need to clean them up and install them. Thankfully the stuff on top of that box is light.

With all the shelving and organization I am able to park all 3 vehicles inside a 3 car garage. When we had the house built I had the 2 car side lengthened by 2' and widened by 2'. The third car side is standard. And it's still hard to find tools sometimes.

If the garage has been there for more than a few years it really does take a lot of paint. Way more than you'd expect.

Have your paint store put it into the shaker. Since KILZ is on the shelf people tend to buy it without having it shaken. If your paint has been sitting in your garage for a while get it shaken again. If you have an account there you paint store will probably reshake it for you (mine will). Home Depot/Lowes/Wal-Mart have shakers, too. Our local HD will reshake it as long as it's a brand they sell.

So would you guy's put all cabinets one one wall? Looking to make life easier as i start on wife's 67 C10 and I might have to bring Chevelle back home. I figured make one wall clean as possible and put Chevelle against it if need be tight.

Or should I post some better pics of garage now and you guys give me advice?

I started a thread like this in tool shed. I'll be taking out some of my deep shelves, for more little shelves along the wall grit in my barn. Mainly for carb cleaner, oil etc. 1x6 or 1x8. My shop is only 24x32, so floor space is at a premium. The attached 2 car is only for parking so I keep most everything in the shop. I plan on de cluttering by getting rid of the quad I never ride, and selling some random truck parts.

I'm such a slacker I haven't posted in here. I rearranged my crap twice.. Still messy, hopefully I can make some head way this weekend..

Wall cabinets are fine but it run them to the floor you'll obviously lose floor space. Then if you put a car up against them you lose the cabinet access. But if you need seasonal storage such as camping gear, Christmas decor, that might work OK.

Update!!
So I scored Some heavy duty shelving the other day I have 4 of these 2ft x 4ft x 7ft tall setups with the wood.
I think I can make 2 fit in the garage and maybe with some creative arrangements maybe 3, I’ll prob put one out on the side of the house for misc crap to store outside.. not sure if I like that idea or not..

On a side note, there was an industrial park where they rent space out only to car hobbyists. So you can park/store your car there and work on it 24/7.

i forgot where though. But that may be a viable alternative to re-doing your garage. Or a business idea..........

I’ve heard of that. I’m not sure where, be a cool idea aside the potential issues.. car guys tend to be rowdy after a few beers if HP is involved..

There used to be a "Rent-A-Bay" garage down the road from my house--a guy who was a good body man and painter bought the building,an old service garage that was just like a 4 bay gas station minus the pumps and tanks, and after a few years,he decided he wasn't able to do enough volume to pay off the loan to keep the place open working alone--he was a perfectionist and did many frame off restorations on old cars and got top dollar, but it would take him 6 months or more to do one vehicle..

So,instead of just leaving the other 3 bays empty ,piled up with parts, junk, etc,he started renting out the lifts and bays to those who wanted a place to work on their cars & trucks...

He did very well for several years, and he was getting up there in age--after the town started getting more picky about how the place was kept and insurance costs skyrocketed ,he found it more hassle than it was worth--when his insurer found out the place was being rented out to "anyone" who might get killed or injured using lifts and jacks, removing engines, transmissions, they made him take out a huge liability coverage...for well over 15 years no one had been seriously injured though...

He decided to sell the place, and it sat there empty several years, then a developer bought the property off whoever got it,and tore the building down,a strip mall now sits where it was...
I rented a bay from him a few times when I had my 72 K5 and '69 GTO...beat crawling under them on the ground in my driveway..
