gas gauge goof

sucks that its bad again, wonder if all the water is shorting it out?
i play in a lot of mud and water

Those things are sealed, don't see how water would affect it. If anything bouncing around, but still, don't see what that should hurt in particular.

When you pull the sender, look it over closely and see if you can find out what happened.

Ill post pics when i do, it will be next month though I am having surgery
On both arms.carple tunnle and the alner nerve has to be moved
Deiabetes sucks,glad its gone

Sucks you have to wait for that, good luck in your surgery and recovery however! Gives you plenty of time to think of what you'll do when you are better able to work on it. :)

ya i have been losing my grip for a while but its gotten worse recently and they say it wont get worse and might come back with therapy
after surgery that is

thinking about cutting an access panel and patching it in so i dont have to drop the tank to switch it, what do you guys think about that?

Now take that wire and ground it. If it goes past empty, the problem is something with the tank or wiring to the tank. The tank ground is the most common problem IF you do the test and find the gauge responds correctly when grounded.

FWIW I don't think the "mid point" of the gauge reading means anything. I've never seen a gauge that was correct on either end of the scale, but off in the middle. May happen, just isn't common, at all. Gauge failure itself is not common at all. It's almost always a wiring/connection/sender issue.

It's common enough that I've had three different square body rigs that had bad gauges...and none so far that had bad senders. :dunno:

I pulled a complete gauge cluster from a truck that was submerged, all of them worked still. :dunno:

Odd that our experiences are completely different. I've got 10+ clusters and parts, I've not had anything but a mechanical speedometer fail on me in ~20 years. I've only had one sending unit fail either (oil presure).

My luck normally isn't that good, perhaps I should be happy I've not had issues with the gauges themselves. Plenty of issues with the plastic printed circuit and connectors, but I've fixed that.

well when i get a new one lmc sells them for 60 bucks so ill try one from them
