The wire going from gas tank , down frame rail , is hanging loose at front leaf spring . I can not find wire under hood ? Should I just try to run new wire from gas gauge ? Its tan color . Where should I look for wire under hood ? 74 K5 Blazer .

It runs along the drivers side frame rail on the inside, then goes up into the firewall near the steering colum--some years it goes into the fuse box bulkhead connector, others it goes into a harness and passes thru the firewall below it near the base of the colum..also it often has a rubber "bullet" connector on the frame rail, and changes color to a pink wire with a black stripe ,so it might not be tan up near the firewall...

Actually on my 74k5 it's a single tan wire on the passenger frame rail, crosses over to the harness at the starter. Follows the engine harness to the firewall harness across to the firewall side of the fuse panel and remains tan to that point at minimum.

Will check ! Mine is on passenger side also

Blazers might be different than pickups,I have only chased the wiring down on my pickups that had sending unit woes, and thats what I found on the two I looked at...the 67-72 trucks tank wiring is similar, but those varied from year to year also..when it comes to wiring "they are all the same" does not apply!..seems like every vehicle has a similar "basic" harness, but can vary a lot depending on options and production changes..

I've found several "wrong" colored wires on my '82 pickup going by the wiring diagram in my Haynes book, which are GM reprints, and its the original harness..the '81 and '83 diagrams match up on the items that have different wiring color codes than the '82 shows though..:dunno:..the wiring diagrams I have dont specify if they are pickup only or include K5's either..

The starter harness was the ticket !!!
I had 2 wires down there ? Just taped up . One
Was the gas gauge wire !!! Thanks !!!
It's working now !!!!!
