Now, on the highway, especially the 2-laners where I'd be going 60 rather than the 80 of the interstate (and thus fighting against a lot less wind resistance - around half as much), I'm sure I'd get better than sub-10, but I haven't done enough miles on either type of highway to judge. I don't worry about mileage, but I am kind of wacko about receipts and expense logs (which includes gas fills, cost and price per gallon, and recording odo readings when I do gas up).1985_K5_Silverado said:I get just a little under 10, but my foot loves the floor.
Better than 3.73? Yes. By the way, you'll be making more drag with the top off (but enjoying the ride more).bear76 said:Would 3.55's give better MPG? It should get better when I lose the top this spring.![]()
Air resistance. That's one of the reasons that some pickup owners replace the tailgate with a net or a ventilated tailgate that the air can more easily pass through. The mileage you'd gain by popping the top would be overshadowed by what you'd lose to wind resistance. Remember, you were the one that said you'd get better mileage with the top popped. I just pointed out that it would have the opposite effect.steve_kibbe said:Whats drag?

well i average about 5 mpg, thats around town mostly, but my carb needs rebuilding and the plugs need changing, etc... I have a 350 with the stock 4bbl and manifold, lotsa emission crap disconnected. Summer will bring edelbrock manifold and carb, and headers with a dual exhaust, maybe (and i mean maybe) I might put some flowmasters on it, i like the idea of str8 pipes.
I forgot o mention right now i got good year wrangler 31's on it, jumping up to 33's this summer also, i wonder if my mileage will drop?SierraClassic said:I'm averaging between 19 - 20 mpg in my truck. 77 1/2 ton short step with a 350 "HO" from an early 80s 1 ton truck, 700r4, 3.08 rear diff and 27" tires
