Gas Mileage

I don't check that! If I was worried about gas milage, I would be driving a foreign car.....

I get about 7-8 n town 8-10 on the highway. (90 burb, 3/4 350/th400, 3.73's, 36's, 4" lift, 213k on original motor)

damn maybe its just the way i drive, but i get just a hair over 8 at 70 on the interstate at 3000 rpm, and only like 5 or so in town .....
cammed 350, 4x4 , sm465, and 33 tires. I have no idea what gears i have?

Just checked for the first time in my 88 k5, 12 avarage, some in town and some highway. I love driving a V8 again:D

stock 91 350TBI(171k) 31" a/t revos 10bolt(3.73) 4l60

range 14(driving like a bat out of hell)-16mpg(driving like a grandma) about 50%city/50% highway

I get just a little under 10, but my foot loves the floor.
Now, on the highway, especially the 2-laners where I'd be going 60 rather than the 80 of the interstate (and thus fighting against a lot less wind resistance - around half as much), I'm sure I'd get better than sub-10, but I haven't done enough miles on either type of highway to judge. I don't worry about mileage, but I am kind of wacko about receipts and expense logs (which includes gas fills, cost and price per gallon, and recording odo readings when I do gas up).

I've got a stock 91 w/ 260K and 31's on it. I'm around 15 with mixed driving. I assume it has 3.73's. Would 3.55's give better MPG? It should get better when I lose the top this spring.

Better than 3.73? Yes. By the way, you'll be making more drag with the top off (but enjoying the ride more).

Whats drag?
Air resistance. That's one of the reasons that some pickup owners replace the tailgate with a net or a ventilated tailgate that the air can more easily pass through. The mileage you'd gain by popping the top would be overshadowed by what you'd lose to wind resistance. Remember, you were the one that said you'd get better mileage with the top popped. I just pointed out that it would have the opposite effect.

I will have a soft top and drive around safari style, maybe half the time. I figured if I lost 300Lbs it would help with the MPG.

Easy dood, I was being sacastic, and no, it wasn't me who said I'd get better mpg with the top off.

No biggy:D

I did try the pickup bed thing with my diesel, and it was the same either way, but I got the same kinda mpg loaded and unloaded:thinking:

will it be better? yes. will it be worth the expense of swapping to 3.55 gears? not for a LOOONG time.

having tried this with 2 separate trucks, it makes no noticeable difference. i tried it with an 82 C10 350/350 3.08s on 235 75 15s, and with a 1993 C1500 5.0/4L60E 3.42s, on the same exact tires and wheels. whether the gate was up, down, or completely removed, it made no noticeable difference.

mpg

:haha: :haha: well i average about 5 mpg, thats around town mostly, but my carb needs rebuilding and the plugs need changing, etc... I have a 350 with the stock 4bbl and manifold, lotsa emission crap disconnected. Summer will bring edelbrock manifold and carb, and headers with a dual exhaust, maybe (and i mean maybe) I might put some flowmasters on it, i like the idea of str8 pipes. :D :D I forgot o mention right now i got good year wrangler 31's on it, jumping up to 33's this summer also, i wonder if my mileage will drop?

I'm averaging between 19 - 20 mpg in my truck. 77 1/2 ton short step with a 350 "HO" from an early 80s 1 ton truck, 700r4, 3.08 rear diff and 27" tires

GMC used to average about 15 mpg with a 355, TH400, 4.10 rear diff, and 31" tires. I do drive my vehicles pretty nicely most of the time though, just cause I have a tendancy to blow motors if I drive them hard, lol
