Gas Prices again!!! Diesel currently is 7,7 $ a Gallon!!!

That's what pisses me off the most... diesel is a product of the gasoline refining procedure, and can be gotten by itself with less refining than gasoline, so why is it more expensive?

Actually, diesel is a more refined product than it used to be, ( more hydrotreating to remove the sulfur, which requires using natural gas in the refining process ), but the other reason it costs more is 'cause china and other developing countries have a serious need for it, and are buying up every damn drop they can get.. that's a byproduct of " free trade" unfortunately.. when countries industrialize in order to make stuff, they become consumers of fuel..that starts a ripple effect, creating more demand on a supply that's affected by the suppliers ability to process the product, and thus may or may not meet the demand. shortages = higher prices.

We need to drill more, refine more, and get serious about making fuels from coal.. right now, with the biofuel kick we're on, we get to pay higher food costs, and higher pump prices..

Gas is 2.89 and Diesel is 3.09 i believe. It may have went up. It was 2.75 just the other day. This is gettin ridiculous...i shoulda never gotten rid of my car.

I was in Germany two weeks ago, It costs as much to fill my aunts fiat overthere as my stupid duty here. At least there they have public transportation that works unlike in so cal

My mom said that my grandpa used to claim that if gas ever got over $1 a gallon he'd sell the family car and they would walk everywhere! haha
But don't you guys think its all relative? I mean sure its a lot of money but I daily drove a 20 year old pickup with a carb'd 350 w/ 8" on 38.5's on a part time job's budget and I never had any problems...
YES it is a big part of a person's monthly budget but imagine life w/o gas...it just wouldn't happen sadly so IMO I just don't look...its a necessary evil so just get it and get on with life...

I think the point was that they are paying almost $8/gallon, likely with less discretionary income than we have. If I roughly calculate it, would run about $800/month for me to drive my truck. I think that would put a serious crimp in most of our budgets. That's probably more than many pay for renting an apartment.

Mass transit becomes a much more popular option at that cost. :)

True... I guess I wasn't clear... I was talking to those of us paying around the $3.00 mark + or - $0.50 or so...

Thus we are trading the higher cost of fuel, for lower consumer goods, esp. consumer electronics. In doing so we have also opened a Pandora's Box with China. As less of their economy/society is farm or agriculture based and more industrialized, individuals disposable income rises and they become a cosumer based society wanting the same inexpesive products that we currently enjoy. More of the population migrates to those areas where the better paying jobs are. Housing is in short supply so they have to commute further and further for those better jobs. Sound familiar? Next comes their ability to afford cars and commute. Exponential growth in demand for oil, with a population that is staggering.

China is a time bomb, that primarily US consumers built.

$800 a month is more than I pay in mortgage... I love Midwest housing prices. As-is I pay $300ish a month for fuel, but I drive between 60-80 miles a day on a 5.4L (just went up to 110-130, stupid paper routes). I did just pick up a '94 mazda protege for $700 though. A distributor, cap, rotor, plugs and wires later and she's moving right along. 180 miles and still over half a tank, and the tank is half the size of my trucks. Should knock my fuel fee down a good bit.

Yeah gas aint going down just up and up. I am thinking of selling my Mustang and getting a econo box to drive around.
I am wating till the New 08 Cobalt SS comes out later this year. I think a Turbo charged, direct injected 260 hp/260Tq Cavalier is just what I need.:D

We have a speed shop here pushing 700+ hp to the wheels on a couple of 2.2 L. I had to ask what all they were doing to do that. Turbo. That's it. I'm sure these turned into 15,000 mile motors, but it would be a fun 15,000 miles. :D

yea i mean wtf .20 .30 cent jump i mean wv prices are high because of taxes. i always try to get my gas in virgina. but it's not as bad as a few years ago when it jumped dollars over night.

I checked our prices online, we are still hovering around $3.00 in the Akron/Canton area (an hour south of Cleveland). Still sucks though.
