Gas Prices again!!! Diesel currently is 7,7 $ a Gallon!!!

Public transit isnt quite a solution, as the price for public transportation has moved in the same transition as the price of fuel.

NYC is a big hub for commerce, but it is also a major traveling nightmare. Its also one of the best (in my opinion) big city systems around for getting places, and I've been to over a dozen systems world wide. NYC gets a bad rap for rush hour, but our system has been in place for a LONG Time, and therefore has some historical growing pains.. but thats getting off the point.

RAil Road system (not subway, we differentiate here);peak tickets are upward of 7 dollars each way. Monthly tickets are close to 200.

Metrocard for the subway/bus system: $2.00 per ride, monthly's are close to 70ish.

If you dont live in the 5 boroughs of NYC, your monthly commuting cost is around 300 dollars. Roughly 100 gallons of gas, or 3000 miles with an econo car.

Long story short; it all costs the same. It hurts to fill up a 40 gallon tank (over 100 bucks!)but if you want to play, you have to pay.

3.35 for diesel, 2.92 regular in N. Scottsdale this PM. The jump in diesel is just insane.

Right now regular is about 2.87, but diesel is over 3.50 a gallon. Yes my dad get's 22 MPG in his Dodge, but he is sure glad he doesn't drive it much. Since I commute 80 miles a day, plus my wife running kids to school at another 40 miles a day, my monthly gas bill is well over 400 a month. That is with only driving the K5 for weekends.

Mass transit is great, if it was available. They are ready to open a new high speed line from Ogden to SLC, great except I don't live there. Then there is the bus system, I would use it if it actually ran when I am at work. I can't even catch a bus out of Tooele to SLC at 9:00 at night and expect to arrive at work on time. If this keeps up, I am going on welfare and staying home. At least then I can keep my truck and car and save money.

I know our 3 bucks a gallon can not compare to your 8 but it really does suck.

The thing that I find most aggravating about it is the "economist" says there are indicators that a recession is coming but they can’t figure out why. It was stated by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke the economy is slowing even more this quarter.

How on earth can they continue to under estimate the effect of 3 dollar a gallon gas. Sure, we can pay for it because we need it to get to work. There was another news reporter that said she thought Americans could deal with 4 or 5 dollars a gallon before we would get all hot and start pointing fingers at law makers. The fact that everyone seems to miss is if we are going to pay 3 bucks a gallon for gas we will not spend money on other items like, going to dinner, movies, new cars, houses, and the like. Everyone is keeping what used to be extra play funds so they can buy shoes for their kids.

Every aspect of our lives' changes with the increased prices of gas and it seems to be overlook by the people who know the economy.

Well, that's how I see it anyway.

It's not just that, the big car companies want us to buy newer more economical cars, but most of us can't do that. I would love to buy a Prius or other hybrid to save money, but that would cost me so much it would negate the savings. I can't even afford to buy a little buzzbox to save money, because I still have to go to work and that costs a lot of $$$.

I think Im gonna start riding my bike again.

This certainly changes a lot of perspectives though. Like:

Maybe people dont want to take leasurely trips to the mall.

Local mom and pop stores may survive- because you'll pay a dollar extra for an item, instead of 4 dollars to drive to get to home depot.

I know I drive a lot less now. but its still cheaper than a new car.

Last time I filled up the tank on the blazer the diesel was $7.2. On 1 jan the fuel gets higher CO2 tax and will get even higher:mad:
The really bad thing is that over 80% of the fuel price is taxes and then we have 25% VAT-tax on everything. So just the fuel is pretty cheap.
It's not easy having cars and trucks as a hobby over here...

Yep.

With all due respect, that's socialism for you.

Yep, it is but as 4by4bygod said healthcare is (almost) free and we have a really good "safety net" if you loose your job so no one has to live on the streets (theoreticaly anyways).

It's not the VAT or income tax I'm complaining about that's actually quite ok if you consider what you get but this CO2 tax is really pissing me off.
The government knows that people has to drive cars (a lot of people lives outside citys here) to work an so on so it's the easiest way to make money for the state. And now with this climate change debate going on the politicians compete with ideas how to reduve CO2 emissions. The industry is to powerful to mess with so they just take it out of car owners instead:mad: Even though the industry are the ones causing most of the polluting.

I'm sure you're getting more of this in the US too. I actually beleive it's not all a bad thing but the CO2 taxes has to be the same for everyone not just for cars since it's the easiest.

I was being sarcastic, actually.. there's nothing "free" about free health care.

Depends on how you count. You pay for it one way or the other:rolleyes:
That's why I said almost free. The politicians thinks it's free...
This is getting a bit off topic.
