Wow gas prices are soaring. they've gone up 50 cents in two weeks here. low grade is right around 2.56 a gallon...... So I got to thinking... Just wondering, could anyone tell me about alcohol engines. What would it take to make my 350 run on some of Uncle Jesse's brew?? I've heard some reason's why it's not a good idea.. But how do dragsters run on this type of fuel? What is involved in converting a motor to accept this and would it be reliable?

I know this post is pointless, but I am really starting to consider making moonshine if I can figure a way to use it as fuel.

Buy a cheap beater car for mileage. I bought a '94 Olds Bravada with a 4.3 Vortec from my bro-in-law for only $500. All it needed was new tires. :deal: :waytogo:

If you get a diesel engine I heard it is possible to run JetA fuel.. and I think you can get that really cheap or even free from airfields..

I thought I heard something like that.. don't quote me on it though. Something to investigate.

easier to use methane. Look up this dude who ran his car on methane on chicken poop. Something like 30 lbs of poop is good for like 300 miles. lol

Actually, this rig is an "upgrade" to what I was driving before. I drove the '78 SWB K10 which got around 7 mpg and before that was my '85 K30 which got 5 mpg.
I think I'll take the improved mileage of the 4.3 any day over the other two trucks. Last time I checked, I was getting 12 mpg in the town and I only stay in town with it, too. Laugh all you want but you'd do the same thing if you got ****ty mileage with the bigger trucks.

I just did a google search on gas prices and I could not believe it....

Venezuela , govenment controlled , tax free gas costs a total of.....

14 cents per gallon :yikes:

Why are us north americans being bent over the barrel (no pun intended :rotfl: )

yeah, I noticed the venezuela thing on tv today...... I was thinking about getting a tanker and making a smuggler run down there :D

make your rig offroad only... drive a metro to work. I take the bus to work. Its a commuter benefit, which means the $51 the bus pass costs is taken out of my check pre-tax... so I can "stick it to the man" a little bit as far as taxes go. Then, my company gives me $30 a month for a "commuter subsidy". So basically, when all is said and done, I commute for like $10 a month... I can sleep for 30 mins each way, I don't have to worry about my truck getting ripped off or vandalized or hit downtown, I don't have to worry about getting tickets and I even save a few $ on car insurance 'cause neither of my trucks drives me to work. I buy gas for my little ford ranger like once every 3 weeks (mainly cause thats what I drive my wife around in on the weekends). Not bad.

Thank God for company trucks, :o I get to take one home 20 miles each way and don't have to use my k5 til the weekend if at all. Once in a while if I outperform I get to use the company card to fill my personal truck.. :wink1:

You have to drive like a jackass to get under 17 in an s truck with a 4.3 I get 26 on the highway in my 99 2wd Jimmy. Average around 23 a tank.

but no one has answered my question.... what would it take to make a sbc run on alcohol? its not a pretroleum based fuel, so it very well become cheaper... or at least it could be made.....

You need to run a very high compression I know that for sure. Something like 14:1 I think....that could be a problem cause that would be hard on a bottom end....real hard. I would think a forged crank/rods/pistons would be in order.

I wonder if this could be a reliable type of motor with that high of compression (even with all forged stuff)?? I bet you could produce some serious HP....
