Gas prices in europe are pretty irrelevant.. The USA economy is completely based off of petroleum fuels.. from truckers to long daily commutes... I could ride a bicycle across the UK in a few hours 
...... In america we DRIVE alot.. I drive to college and back 40 miles each way, every day.. and I drive plenty on the weekends too.
The american economy is built to withstand $3 gas prices. it just won't survive very well like that.
