Gas prices editorial

Oh, You lucky guys over there in the states!
Here in Europe they charge us with $3,25 for a gallon. THATS hard! That's why they use to say over here: 'You need not be crazy to drive a V8, but it definitely helps'
Did I mention I love beeing crazy?

15mpg

'89 w/ 33's, mild exhaust.
speedo is off by about 10%, so that means odometer is off by the same amount. on paper, at the pumps, i get 13 to 14 miles per gallon. with the ten percent increase due to the larger tires (which make my speedo and odometer read 'slow') i get 15mpg.
and the half-way mark on the gauge is nowhere near half-way in the tank.
btw, with the top off, i might see 17.

I'm not going to sell mine, but here's a little math for ya.

Let's say you have a 50 mile ride to work. 5 round trips per week, and another 200 miles on the weekend and you could average 36,400 miles per year. Sure that's on the high side for most of us perhaps, but let's continue:

Blazer..................Higher-MPG small/mid car
36,400miles..........36,400miles
10mpg..................25mpg
3640 gals of gas...1456 gals of gas
$2.00/gallon..........$2.00/gallon
$7280/year............$2912/year

That's a difference of $4368/year or $364/month. If I had a lengthy commute I'd have to consider a higher mileage car or a motorcycle for the trips to work, and the Blazer for fun. I'm only 4.5 miles to work so I consider myself VERY lucky. I really feel bad for you guys who match the scenario above...

I drive a 90 full size Jimmy. It has a 31 gallon tank. But guys, consider alternative fuel. I just had my dad install a 22 gallon tank (fill to about 18.5 to allow for expansion) for PROPANE. Not only is it cheaper, I happen to get 500 gollons free. And who is the guy talking about methanol? Is that possible? I suppose it would be better then Nitrous. ;-)
