Gas Prices

high prices in cities is expected, they have alternate transportation, but here in the sticks, we rely on our cars, and 11mpg blazers.

Just wonder what is going to happen with everything else, how are we all going to be able to survive, time to set up camp off the grid.

Gas went up again today here  . It was 115.6 a litre yesterday and today it is 134.5 a litre. That is regular. Man oh man this is getting to be a bit much. Will it ever go down.

Gas here in Albuquerque ranges from $2.72 at Costco (which had lines of 10+ cars per pump :eek1: ) all the way up to $3.09 at some Conoco stations which had no cars :haha:. Mind you, this is for regular, tack on $.10 for each higher grade.

Sadly, I haven't touched my K10 in over a month except to haul a doghouse. I've been reduced to driving my Subaru back and forth to work, which is 35 miles away. Even in the Subie that gets 30MPG, I still sink almost $40 a week into it..and that's a 12 gallon tank. I can't imagine what I'd do if I didn't have more fuel efficient cars to drive..the K10 with its dual 20 gallon tanks would take $120 to fill up.
I also have a 94 Chevy G20 conversion van for hauling the family around in....that thing eats about $70 a week. And thank god I don't drive the 64 Thunderbird around...that thing is the epitomy of a gas hog...even worse than the K10.
There's a light rail system that will carry commuters up and down the Rio Grande valley (from Bernalillo to Belen if anyone knows where those two towns are), which I fully plan on using once it's available (sometime late fall is the due date).

Overall though, Albuquerque has a decent mass transit system for being a city of only 600k people or so, and the commuter rail system will benefit a lot of people who commute daily. But for those of you who don't have such options available, I feel sorry for you because of the lack of options for transportation. Oddly enough, I work in Belen which has a population of less than 10k, and they have higher prices than anywhere in Albuquerque that I've seen..the cheapest I saw in Belen was $3.05 and the highest was $3.14.

Personally, I'm probably going to sell off the T-Bird so I can buy a street bike and save even more in gas.
I'd rather buy $200 worth of warm clothes so I can ride in the winter than pay twice that in gas every month on the Subie & van.

I got it here for $259 a gallon, but the lady at the station said it would be more expensive by this afternoon as they had a truck comming.

What's an extra $30.00 to fill the tank anyway? I love to drive my truck, and I will keep driving my truck. Everyone is paniking about gasoline. Why? I work at a car dealership and we get 15+ calls a day about locking gas caps. Honda doesn't offer them because the cars all have inside releases. I try to explain to people that if someone is going to pry the sheetmetal off of their car to get TO the cap, they will just pry of a locking gas cap also. Gas prices will continue to rise, like they always have. They will go back down to $3.00 and that is that. NOTHING we say or do will change that fact. Get used to it. Get a more fuel efficient vehicle. If you are gonna spend $400.00 a month in your car for fuel, go get a car payment on a fuel efficient car that gets 50mpg for the same money. Then it won't feel so bad when you go wheelin.
My $.02
Feel free to be pi$$ed about the truth, but someone had to say it.

I just filled up here in Maine it was almost $3.50 for reg. I got talking to a dump truck driver and he said he is forking over $400.00 a DAY for diesel.
Thanks

Tank a week, 52 weeks a year - $1,560.00 per year. Maybe you are making more than I am, but I assure you that I could do other things with that money.

That is another effect. Everything gets more expensive because it costs more to deliver. But what the hell, its only $30 more a tank...

Eehh It's like a pack of smokes a day. Whaddoyado. I'm about to dive my 8mpg Blazer 3 hours to go wheelin for the weekend. I could stay home, but this is my entertainment. So I won't go the movies and I won't supersize my mickyd's. It is very easy to save 5 bucks in the average American budget. I didn't say it doesn't suck...I said it's the way it is.
This is the last time I will worry about things untill Tuesday. I'm gonna go put a C-note in my tank and go see if I can break my truck for a few days.

Yeah, that little clip is funny, until it starts making political stmts. I can't believe people really think the situation is that simplistic. Just shows how ignorant some people are to think that everything that causes them heartache or difficulties is caused by Bush, and that Cheney is the head of some evil empire, oh brother. Someone told me they just passed new standards that all new passenger vehicles starting in 2010 must get 23mpg+. WOW!! I hope the technology really gets that much better, and we don't all end up driving tiny tin cans with no guts, cause that would really suck. Thank goodness diesels aren't subject to the regs! :D (I think, can anyone confirm?)

Get Better??? Hmm. As I recall all of the 4-cylinder, and some of the 6-cylinder cars from the early to late 80's all got better mileage than the new models.
I had a 86' Toyota MR2. And it got about 35-Hwy 27-City.... 90' VW Fox
That got about 30-hwy 25-city..... 88' Mazda MX6 about 32-hwy 27-city..... All of them had more than enough power to roast the tires any time I wanted..

But people ,(mostly younger buyers ) wanted more power..So the manufacturer's designed the motors to make more power. They also started making the motors bigger in the same cars. All of which people loved , And kept asking for more power. So the Cookie Crumbled....

It was never a matter of Technology.. We had it already..still do. But everyone's simply forgotten..

A friend of mine got his old VW Diesel Rabbit truck out of his yard. (early 80's model ) and it's still getting about 50-55 MPG on the Hwy.

So its still simply about people with lots of money and power wanting more money. :wink1: ;)

You forget, the vehicles your referring to are all vehicles that are the product of the last major hike in oil.

I had a 89 ford Probe GT turbo. (same as the turbo mx6 drivetrain). It was supposed to "replace" the Mustang GT, becuase the price of fuel was so high. I consistantly got over 32mpg highway, and it was a 6.7 sec 0-60 from the factory.

It had twice the power of my dad's sentra, and similiar fuel economy.

there was the inline 6 k5 blazer- again during the fuel crisis.

the Honda Civic HX "lean burn"- over 45mpg I think. Funny thing, the 1996-2000 HX has better fuel economy than the 2001+ HX.

Also remember though, the older cars didnt have as much safety equipment, nor crumple zones. Hence, they tend to be 300-1000 lbs lighter. (Im sure that VW weighs no more than 2500lbs).

But if anyone see's an old VW diesel, let me know. :)

I understand it's no big deal to get over 23mpg with a car, but what about full-size SUVs like the Suburban and Tahoe and also pickups? I understood the regs would apply to these also. I know the technology is already available, but in most instances it's not ready to be mass produced and isn't enough for heavy vehicles to get great milage. Many people with 5+ kids need a vehicle that can hold them all. I only have two, but like the safety of driving a large vehicle and also the cargo space. I don't think I could have bought a safer vehicle for $3K. We can go alt fuel like CNG or propane, but that's not readily available either in most markets, esp rural, plus there are large initial costs for setup. It's just going to be interesting to see what actually happens.

You can buy 'em (Golf TDI) brand new for 18k, right now. Rated 49hwy. Jetta TDI 21k. 48hwy

Gas Prices!!!

The Friday before Labor Day, I had a coupon for 34 cents off per gallon, & still paid 2.54 per. It's real disturbing when you pass four refineries every day and they still seem to be fully functional. And I'm having a real hard time believing the crude here is coming from the gulf.
These cronies making massive profits on a catastrophe should be hung. The whole situation wreaks, of the good old boy network.

Here in NY you can't buy a diesel unless it has a GVW of over 8500 Lbs. And even those vehicles require a yearly emissions inspection test that started about a year ago. What really sucks is the diesel vehicles manufactured before last year are still required to pass the new test. :doah:

I've already found another VW Diesel rabbit. It's not a truck, but!! And I'm gonna get it because my 6.2 K20 is still in the back yard with a rod out the side of the block.. And both tanks are full...................
So I'm way ahead of ya. ;)
Also, The gas is running 3.05 for regular. But we have a temperary repreive..
Tha pumps at the station my wife manages won't go any higher than 2.99 :D :D :D
