Trying to install a new gas tank in a ‘71 Jimmy. I don’t have the old tank. I have already checked the local junk yards. Any idea where to get one or am I stuck trying to make one?

I’ve never seen one. Most people who don’t have one just use a longer rubber hose. Although I thought I’ve seen a new tank that had the whole filler neck on it. Not sure where I saw it though.

My new tank just has one one that sticks up about 4”. In a way I’m kinda jealous

Brothers sells a tank with correct neck. https://www.brotherstrucks.com/1969-72-CHEVY_GMC-BLAZER-GAS-TANK-STEEL/productinfo/BSGT972/
This place might be able to help with your current tank. https://www.fillernecksupply.com/
I have the same tank you are describing. I cut the 4" neck off and had a radiator/gas tank shop braze the stock neck on. That is way I don't buy junk for LMC anymore.

i thought I’d seen the new tank with filler neck somewhere, thanks.

I think I saw that MTS lists a plastic fuel tank for first generation K5's now too, while looking over their listings recently..not sure what the filler looks like on theirs though..

My truck needs a new tank and I'm debating whether going plastic is worth about $100 more than a steel one,on an old wreck that might not be roadworthy in the near future..(could always keep the tank and transfer it to another square body I guess)..

The plastic first gen tanks are not very durable and have the same filler neck problem as the steel tanks.

I thought I was buying the correct tank from “Truck Shop”. I’ll call them on Monday and see what’s up. If they can’t help I’ll order from brothers

i remember that place being decent. They were also the only place I could find that had the correct size rubber hose for these tanks filler neck.

lmc has em
LMC does have the tanks, but the fine print tells you to reuse old nec . The problem for me is I dont have the old tank and neither does the person I bought my jimmy from

I bent the frame and picked up some very flexible hose. I haven’t installed yet, tomorrow, but I think it will work.
Let me know how that goes. I was thinking about using flex hose as well. It's either that or I'm going to just buy the tank with proper neck from brothers
