gas tank filler neck

learn something new everyday........
so it is supposed to have the turkey neck looking filler on the tank?
Did the one you got from oreillys not have that setup? What year is your rig? From what I understand it's supposed to look like the one brotherstrucks has. Downfall is my jimmy didnt come with it's original gas tank for reference

My rig is 82 and it bolted up and I ordered the rubber part from them to
Was by the foot.

YA That's what i meant, the new one i bought matched the old one just didn't have holes in it that weren't supposed to be there

Oh I believe the turkey neck looking one is only 68 to 72

Yep, special one. You also might be able to cut the short one down a bit and run a rubber hose instead, but without a body lift, I don’t think it’d work. Could also find some tubing bent up to match the original and get it tig welded on there.

or just get the brothers version I guess.

Back when I was a parts counterman,I often had guys come in looking for a special pipe or tubing for gas tanks, and radiator conversions..

Many times a walk out back to the exhaust pipe racks was all we needed to do,we just looked thru them all till we found one with the right diameter and bends (or "close enough"),and I sold them that, with the stipulation it couldn't be returned if modified..

I have used radiator hose on fuel tanks,so have many of my old customers---I know its not recommended ,but I never had one leak or freak out from exposure to gas--diesel might be a different story..the hose does get rock hard after awhile though..

Finally got my tank in place. Using flex fuel filler hose from napa (sold by the foot. Here like 25 bucks a foot and its got heavy duty wire built into it so it can flex)
I got a 2 foot section.
Seems to be a nice fit

Side note. I do not have a body lift installed on my jimmy

Sorry - Hijack!

After reading this thread and some other reasons, I decided to swap out my gas tank. The gas tank from Brothers (highly recommend) didn't come with a locking ring, my tank is seriously a one-off so, no ring. I thought I'd buy the less expensive tank straps, locking ring and whatever an "Anti-Squeak" Kit is from LMC.

WARNING- - SAVE YOUR MONEY and buy the whole role of tar paper for $10.

I called today and the lady didn't sound the least surprised and refunded my money, and told me to keep it or whatever she didn't care.
