gas tank

Ok so I've got to replace the tank in my 86 k5 as it has 5 pin holes that leave a trail everywhere it goes. It currently has the 31 gallon tank but I'm wondering will the 40 gallon tank fit with out needing new straps or any major mods? Also is the sending unit the same for the 31 and the 40 gallon tank? I'd like to have the extra fuel but not if it's going to cost a fortune and take a lot of time.

The bigger tank is taller so the straps and pickup will need to swapped out. I'm pretty sure the skid is different too.

Skunked may be thinking about the 25- vs 31- gallon tanks.

Blazers only came stock with the 25 and 31 gallon tanks. The 40 gallon is for Burbs, and IIRC it does not easily transplant into a Blazer.

Dimensions, from LMC's site:

25gal is 28.75 x 28.125 x 10.75
31gal is 28.75 x 28.125 x 12.75
40gal is 35 x 28.75 x 13.125

You'd have to at least move one crossmember and drop your skid plate or move the tank up, plus replace the sender due to height.

In short, I'd say stick with the 31 gallon.
