Hey guys,

Today i removed the transfer case off my 85 blazer, and there was a gasket, or what looked like maybe RTV that was between the transfer case and the transmission. Is this a gasket i will need when i put a new transfer case in, or can i use RTV? It's a 208 transfer case.

Thanks guys

not sure, but I see you're in chandler, You'll need to go down to the regional forums and introduce yourself. We got lots of good people here.

There is a paper gasket for this, yes. If you were local to me I'd give you my spare one, as I *really* don't want to drop trannies/xfer cases again any time soon. :haha: [I've dropped a 350-203-205, a 400, and a 400-208 in the last few months.]

You should be able to get it from a local tranny shop or a GOOD parts place... you could prolly do it with RTV, but the paper ones are easier and the factory put them there for a reason. (That reason may be that they're cheaper, but it's a reason =))

From the factory on my 89 blazer with a 241 t-case there is a large O-ring between the tranny and t-case adapter but between the adapter and t-case is only silicone.

I wish I would have used RTV instead of gasket paper on my tcase. I bought the gasket kit off of ebay and both bearing retainers are leaking, the pto cover, and the gasket between the 205 and the doubler adapter. The NAPA kit looks much nicer.
