howdy, I’ve been searching and don’t see a clear answer in this. I have the big fuel gauge cluster in my ‘87 K5. I ran onto this big tach small fuel gauge cluster today. What all is involved in swapping in the big tach and small fuel gauge into my existing cluster? Thank you.

Is the oil gauge in the tach cluster electric or mechanical?

When I did this swap on my 80 K10 I did the following;

• I pulled the wires for the gas gauge from the cluster plug and ran them directly to the small gauge.
• the tach cluster oil gauge was mechanical so I plumbed it
• I cannot remember if I changed the temp sender to match the year of the cluster but it worked.
• the tach has a stand alone harness, 2 wires I think it was - 1 to the hei cap (see tach terminal on the cap) and maybe 1 for switched ignition power (double check, I can’t remember).

That looks like my 77 instrument cluster. Mine is mechanical oil pressure. for the fuel gauge, trace the printed circuit for each cluster then move the corresponding pins in the connector. They physically should be the same, only the position of the wires may different
