I had 4.56s put into my 10bs and after a week or so of driving I noticed a whinning/grinding sound. It happens when I decelerate and is louder from higher speeds. If I push in on the gas pedal it will stop but that doesn't help when I'm trying to slow down.

I had the shop check the gears and axles and everything was good but he told me that it could be the t-case.

Any thoughts?

It's possible that it's coming from the gearset itself but usually those are noisier when you apply throttle to them if they aren't setup right.

My guess is it's coming from the transfer case as a result of driveline vibrations, the reason this is now showing up is due to your deeper axle gears the driveshafts are now spinning much faster.

Do you know where I can get a rebuild kit? All I can find are the gaskets.

What Chris is saying is that the faster drive line speeds due to the lower gears is causing a slight drive line vibration. It isn't real noticeable but shows up as noise in the transfer case.

There is nothing wrong with your transfer case that's just where the noise finally comes from

double check drive-shaft angles, drive-shaft re-balanced, etc.

:doah:I'm tracking, now!

I'll dig into it during the holiday break. thanks

Tracking, as in sideways?
did you pull the axles out to regear them?
if so look for lose U bolts and or sheared centering pin on the springs.

Lol, the military slang comes out every now and then. Thanks miniwally

Certain gear mfgs tend to have noisey gears too. Keep that in mind. There's nothing wrong with them, just loud.

I put some 3.73s in a Camaro that would make noise at cruise/coast. All the wear patterns were good. They were just a noisey brand of gears (read cheap).

I had that same issue after installing a new yoke on my 10b. My problem was that I torqued the pinion nut too tight, jacked up the crush sleeve. And it did exactly what you described. Whined/grinds only when I took my foot off the pedal. Nothing out of the ordinary while on the gas.
