I've heard there are some undesirable characteristics/limitations to the Dana 70 rears that came under Dodge Cummins trucks. What's the good and bad about these sort of Dana 70's?

AFAIK, the only D70 there is an issue with is the one that came with 3.07's in the CTD trucks. From what I've heard a D70 with 3.07's will not accept any other ratio.

It all depends on the pinion offset if regular gears will interchange easily . There are still ways around it if it is one of those Dana 61 wanabe Dana70's .
Eventhough it has common 3.54 gears it still might have the odd offset so becareful if you go to buy gears.
The only other thing I can think of is that it should have 32 spline shafts instead of 35 spline stuff.
