I am DTD (dumber than dirt ) sometimes.
Hi, I'm trying to get my gen5 454 to run again . just changed the timing chain and sprokets/gears and checked the compression. It's on a 1992 K2500 4x4 Heavy Duty with a throttle body held open. Fuel pump and injectors are disconected. In fact , no ignition on either , no spark connected either. using a remote start from starter to battery.
I got what seems like very HIGH compression
Driver side C1 160+ C3 170 C5 180+ C7 180
Pass side C2 160+ C4 160++ C6 180 C8 180+

GOOD OR NOT Should I connect all up and try to fire it up???

looks good to me on them #'s . for a used motor and cold compression check not warm . i say fire in the hole and see what you got .

You could put some oil in the holes and see if anything comes up. It's also possible that once you run it again, the valves or rings will seat a little better. The number spread is a little wide, but would probably still run OK for normal duty. Did you take pictures of the timing marks? Also, was that consistent state of battery charge or could it have been turning a little slower on some holes?

Thats not high at all, but decent for a cold dry dogger like that genv. I hqve one in my shortbed and those numbers look familiar

Thanks for the feed back. I did take pictures of old chain and sprokets (the upper was the plastified type and were worn to the metal.) chain was definitely stretched can't say a whole lot, about 3 deg. New set lined up correctly when tight (but I was surprised stil loose on the non pull side.....) No loss changeing but , what a frckin nightmare loosening a ton of connections to be able to drop the oil pan to remove and replace the timing cover. Good thing I'm retired and have the time to be meticulous. Although we shall see how much it leaks.
Battery was freshly charged but did do all pistons from that charge. Yes, it was getting tired but seemed to pump well enough.
Thanks again.
