Gen 6 Big Block vs. LS for low end torque.

What about removing the torque control on a 6.0 engine. a friend of mine did in his lq4 truck and it feel like it has way more torque than my lq9 escalade.

I haven't looked into it, but I feel like there must be things I could do without our Silverado to improve it. I hate how the transmission downshifts. You really gotta step down on the pedal and the wait a bit, then it'll downshift 2 gears and your screaming. When it happens as I'm trying to pass someone I always feel like they must thing I'm an asshole making a big noisy show of passing them.

I will say if there's anything on the pavement that reduces traction, it will spin the tires like nothing else.

You'll need to tune it. Be careful taking away all of the torque management though. Good way to trash a transmission. You can also tune the transmission as well though different platforms have different abilities.

Torque management is the thing that somewhat kills the fun in stock form. It's not giving you more, it's just giving you back what the torque management was taking away. So yeah it's going to feel like it has more power. Keep in mind it's there to protect the drivetrain downstream from the engine. Not saying the trans is weak but by not letting all the power loose they do save on damage in reduced warranty claims.

Factory tuning on transmissions is not always ideal. You also have an adaptive quality to the transmission that adjusts for wear, clutch fill times and such. One of the main complaints I've seen since the 6 speeds hit and later the 8 speeds is the programming to get to high gear as quickly as possible. The strategy is the sooner we get to an od gear the less fuel it consumes. But with that comes the process that if you need more power it's going to do a multiple gear downshift. 2 or 3 gears down is not uncommon. 4 happens but it's rare. The problem there is the rpm change from cruising in od to three gears down can be like going from 1800rpm to 3800-4000 rpm. It's enough to scare the crap out of some if they aren't expecting it. To really clean it up would take some time with someone that knows what they are doing with hptuners or efilive. Centexk5 is correct below.

I plan to blow up my 4l65e in epic fashion and install a 4l80 at some point. Escalades should have had 4l80s from the factree.
I have yet to blow up the main gears, output shaft or input shaft. everything else considered demolished. Heck I even cracked a case. :haha:

Is the torque management what causes the delay when you push the pedal? Sometimes I mess around pushing the pedal in and out to see how it doesn't do anything.

Sounds like a tbi

Yep torque management. The fun comes from the drive by wire throttle. Too much and it ignores plus can pull timing and injector duty cycle.

i hate these super fast up shifts . even our old th400 was all in at about 25mph in stock 4.10 235/85/16 form . i had @Greg Ducato mod my governor unit and that with a noyoyo shift improver kit made it a lot better . it still does fast shift to 3rd if you drive like grandma .... but hold your foot in the gas and she haaaaaang out a lot longer like it should have . i dont find my self man shifting it near as much anymore .

electric throttle only gives you 49% opening until it sees the need for more . so mashing the pedal gets you ZIP ZERO NADA . . . unless you have a tuner turn it off . atleast this is what i have read .

8.1's with Allison's can't get the TM turned off from what feedback I got. CaptRon had a guy locally try to turn it of on his 8.1 2500hd. Couldn't do it. Or I guess I should say the guy that did the tuning couldn't. That same guy turned it off on his 2500 Yukon, but those came with 4L80e transmissions.

People wonder why Larry and my 8.1s run a cable throttle that 8.1s never used from the factory. Torque management is one. Second is there is less to fail in the boonies.

220 221 whatever it takes.

FIL is having a 6.0 liter put in a 69 Camaro with I believe a 4L60E and lots of suspension and axle work. Looking forward to driving that. I would sometime like to put some more power and performance in the Cherry Bomb, but right now budget isn't there.
