4L60E trans (updated version of the 700r4), 241 t-case (or a variant of it if electronic shift), and 10-bolt rear axle. The 5.3L is approximately 327 cubic inches, but don't get it confused with the old 327 motors......

These are way more stronger than the old motors . Better bottom end , and lots of stock power /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Pointless to even refer to the new engine by "327" as it shares nothing with a previous generation of small blocks.

I have had a 4.8, and currently have a 5.3 in my 2002 2wd extended cab. Both were good motors. They both have piston slap, but it seems to be a common problem with this series of motors. The dealership swore up and down in was spark knock (yeah, ok...), but every one knows better. It hasn't given me any problems though. I couldn't be happier with the motor, or the truck!
