Ok, this what I've got... '87 TBI K5, 10b f/r, 3.42 gears, auburn in rear, 33" ProComp MT, 135k on entire setup, mostly stock, many sensors and wear items replaced in motor new intake, flow master exhaust..... how/what do I do to get a little more miles out this $$$$ gas? Could my pass side exzhaust manifold leak be helping? Any ideas? I drive fast all the time, but I used to get 13 at least doing the same stuff. Thanks for any help.

10 mpg? i wish i got that.. i might get 6-8... on a stock worn out 350 with a 4 spd, stock manifolds and a holley intake and carb.. but have you looked into headers, maybe a throttle body spacer? how recent of a tune up, what do the plugs and wires look like? maybe time for new plugs, r45t plugs are cheap, i got all 8 of mine for like 11 bucks, ac delco and all... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

10mpg!!!!! I wished!!!! I get 6-8 mpg with 350 w/ Edlebrock Performer Intake & Edlebrock #1406 carb with headers!

I get about 12ish in town and like 16-18 on the highway
The 305 does alright. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

What is your setup IE:engine,axles,gears,tires,lift,etc,etc....
Bill

I had just about the same setup as you on my 'burb. I was getting 10mpg, sometimes up to 11 or 12.

I've stopped figuring out my mpg, it was too depressing.

Only thing I can suggest is 1) ignition hop-ups 2) general tune-up, check timing etc 3) "I drive fast all the time" /forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif

I suppose that makes a difference....here is the setup:

engine: edelbrock performer intake
flowtech cheapy headers
dual exhaust
emissions stuff removed
the rest of the drivetrain is stock and the tires are also stock /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

First of all, it sounds like you're running stock gears with larger than stock tires. And I also assume that there hasn't been any speedo correction done, which would mean that you're odometer is also off which would mean that your calculations for mpg would also be off. If for exampl the speedo is reading 10% slow, then your odometer will also be 10% below what it actually is, which means that you are actually getting 11 mpg.
Now if you take that into account, and that it takes more gas to get your larger than stock tires to start moving, you can see why you have a decrease in mpg. What am I saying? ... get your speedo corrected unless you want to calculate incorrect mpg, keep your foot off the gas, and the biggest lesson, when you have a large truck don't worry about mpg. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Exactly quit worrying about MPG if you own a K5 with mods /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif! It's a Big Boy Toy /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif!

H377 you get just about the same as me Wes!
I think he hasn't figured out that this is not a cheap or economical form of transportation!

I've got close to the same set up as yuo and am now getting around 14 mpg.

I was getting 9 mpg, then I went to change my transmission filter (700R4) and the lock-up solenoid was not mounted as it should be. It was just hanging by the wires when I took my pan off. I fixed that and now get around 14 mpg. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Hey, I was excited when I got a tune up done and my milage JUMPED up to 10 mpg (jump in a k5 is from 8 to 10). My buddies 87 sub with tbi only gets 11 mpg. K5's are like mud tires, if mileage is a question you have to ask you shouldn't own either /forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif.

It's posts like this that makes me wished I kept my old '81 SWB K10 with a 250 inline 6, 465, 208, 10 & 12 bolts w/3.73's, and got me 18 mpg on the highway. I sold that truck to buy some new 33" BFG A/T's on 16.5" Weld Racing SS II's. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I still have the Welds leftover after all that. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif
