Does anybody know what kinda mileage a 3/4 ton K5 with 4.10s, 36s, and a 327? That's the engine that I'm planning on swapping in when this one goes down the crapper. I like the whole concept of more torque and horsepower with better mpg /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif. Has anyone installed a Vortec 327? Does it bolt up to a 700r4? Who should I talk to?

Sorry for the thread highjacking...

I got a 91 K5 on 3/4 ton axles, 36s and 4.10s as I already stated and it looks like I lost a couple of mpg when I swapped from 1/2 axles (3.73s) and 33s /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Oh well, at least now I can park on a Honda /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The vortec 5.3 liter is a 325ci far as I know and it has nothing in common with the early classic 327 SBC besides having the same bellhousing pattern. The newer 325 has a longer stroke and smaller bore than a 327 and is a decent motor for a truck if good power isn't really important. It takes a lot of CI to make these big heavy, lifted, big tire'd, trucks to give them an "acceptable" get up and go. That 325 you are talking about is computer controlled and has different motor mounts that won't match up to your current mounts, A lot of things changed in 99'. I don't think it would be worth the hassle to swap in a 325 but maybe a 364(6.0) or definantly the 496 BB(8.1). /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

If its anything to compare to or laugh at; I get about 6-8mpg when I have the plow on and angled fully to the right. its an 87 K5 350TBI, stock tires and exhaust...
