Anybody know if the gm 12 bolt c passenger car rear and truck rear main bearings are the same? I know the housing is a different width already as I have a Detroit locker sitting on the shelf for a car I can't use.
Reason I ask is Strange Engineering offers forged billet main caps but they say they only fit the car housing. If it's a matter of decking the width down on my mill to get them right I'd try it.
I'm trying to beef up this 12 bolt as it's not much weaker than a Ford housing/center section and I'm not ready to rebuild the 14bolt I have that weighs like 225 lbs more.
I'll also be trussing this rear as I move forward.

I have never checked to see what the dimensions are, to see if they are the same.
I was under the impression that the cover you are using made a decent difference in strength. I would wonder if the carrier cap upgrade is worth it, but that's just me.

Just to run my mouth, I have 46K or so on my 12B under my K10. All of it has been with the big block and 700R4, 4:56 ratio. It had 33's for years until they started to crack, so I went to 35's. I don't do stupid things with that truck anymore, but I still haven't broken it yet.
(Me knocking on wood..)
I have done a little wheeling with it, had it on the dragstrip once, several burnouts back in the day.

I'm a moron with my truck n drive it like I stole it I do have 4.88s and 35s with a lock rite for now. Moser axles but what worries me is I hears a little snap on the passenger side when tightening the cover with an inch Pont wrench properly... All I can imagine is that bearing failing under load and lunching the gears set or more

Napa's website lists the same carrier bearings for a 68 Impala and a 75 blazer, so I'll say yes but don't hate me if I'm wrong.
I thought they may be but I don't know if the bolt spacing is the same bc the housing is different
