GM Crate Motor Differences?

Unless I am missing something, I don't think you would need to change much at all. It does not appear to have Vortec heads, so it should be very straight forward. I can not decipher the Cam specs, so hopefully someone else will chime in on that - is the Cam good for your TBI system? You would probably benefit from a good tune after.

With the 290hp motor, you would need to to something different with the intake. THe center two intake bolts on the tbi motor are angled up (more straight up and down) than the older motors like the 290 unit. Option 1 is to hog out your center holes on your current intake and use tapered washers. Option 2 is to use a normal carbed intake and use a carb to TBI adapter. The other thing you would have to do is get a custom chip. There aint no way your stock chip would run that 290hp motor.

i think that is going to be the biggest thing.

Didnt' realize it was the older style motor.

Sounds like i'm sticking with the 190.

Thanks guys.

Yep. The perimeter bolt valve covers are the dead give away. There are some good upgraded TBI motors available that come with a re calibrated chip. But for you, you probably are best off leaving it stock.
