Im trying to place an order and their S & H is very odd and way off.

358589 driver's removable top lower weather-strip. $54 + 56 bux for S & H
358589 passenger's removable top lower weather-strip.
$54 + 56 bux for S & H
357490 removable top on cab weather-strip.
$39 + 58 bux for S & H
15590455 removable to, on top weather-strip.
$36 + 59 bux for S & H

So my order is $183 bux + $229bux for S & H.

What the hell? Thats freakin nuts.

Here is their shipping notices. good luck figuring this out:

"Shipping Methods
In the 48 contiguous states of the USA the minimum handling and shipping charge is just $10.95 for the first part on the order and a discount off minimum handling and shipping fee from each additional item not to go below 22% of the cost of the item order, whichever is greater (unless specified on larger sized items). If you live in a U.S. territory such as Alaska , Hawaii, Puerto Rico etc, shipping will be by U.S. postal service only as long as the item is not oversized. If you are unsure please click on the customer service link to insure your parts are not too large to ship through the U.S. postal service"

This makes me go :doah:

anyways. guess I ll check with the dealer, gotta be cheaper than this sh!t

In english, that means there's a 22% tax on everything they ship. :D Even with the outrageous shipping costs, they are still often times cheaper than the dealer.

Try this place partszoneonline.com They sell GM parts at good prices. I have bought a lot of spare parts for my GN in the past from them.
Tarey

Off the top of my head (meaning I can't find my copy of the catalogue) I think LMC has all of those pieces. Their shipping has been pretty reasonable in my experience.

I have heard good and bad about LMC's weatherstrip. I have no personal experience yet, but I should be receiving some weatherstrip for the sliding windows in the next couple of days, and will report back on the quality and fit.

I have used LMC stuff in the past with good results. but there have been other members that have gotten some really messed up and ill fitting weatherstripping from them, reason I was going with GM parts direct. I think ill check with the dealer, im not paying that much for shipping. I dont know how they can stay in business with shipping prices like that. oh well.

It does sound way off to me.

What you need to look at is the retail price on their website. That's what you will pay for your parts at a dealer. If it adds up with shipping to more than retail, go to the dealer and see what they can do.

VERY few dealers will sell to you for anything less than retail, even though you know exactly what they pay for it, which is GMpartsdirect price before S&H.

Here is what one of my orders looked like (not a big part):

6 14051844 PLATE 8.147I618 23.42
1 HANDLING CHARGE 20.57

That's 6 pieces at $23/each, total $20.57 for shipping.

I have gotten away from gmpartsdirect for this reason and usually either:

1) Buy from Pace Parts instead
2) Print out quotes (with shipping clearly shown) from online vendors and take that down to the dealership. You may have to hunt around for one that will work with you, but sometimes they will match. They still make money.

I've always had good luck with sallee chevrolet in oregon. I think it is now Gilbert Chevy though which i have not done business with yet, but might be worth a shot... Also, sometimes you just gotta call em...

I just called them. They "say" they are giving me just over wholesale, here was their numbers:

358589 $76 x 2
357490 $50
15590455 $56

And S & H being $20bux max.

totalled out around 280 give or take. Cheaper than GMpartsdirect by a long shot.

Not sure why the big price diff., im going to check with local place to see what I can find out.

Just sent them an email. We shall see. Going to check local dealer tomorrow hopefully.

They have generally always been this way. It's just the way it is. Generally, large items are a good deal, smaller items, the shipping isn't reflective of the shipping. Shipping for them is based from price, not the weight or size of the item. This is where they make their money.
There are other sources, but like anything, it's always a shop around game, there is no single cheap source.
I will say this about LMC weatherstrip. It sucks. It is well documented here. Sometimes it fits, most times it doesn't. If you can find/get the real GM weatherstrip, it well worth double LMC prices.

RockAUto doesnt have the OEM seals.

I checked with dealer and I can get the seals, they are 75bux for the top one and 58 for each of the other ones, no shipping but will pay tax. So the seals will run me 280bux no matter which way I cut it thru a dealer. Sure beats the 400 gmpartsdirect wanted.

Not to defend LMC because it is hit or miss on quality, but I used their Suburban long window seal and piping and it worked like I'd expect OEM to work.

I buy all my GM parts from my local Chevy dealer. The parts manager has become a good friend. His customer service is beyond outstanding. He sells to me as a "cash wholesale customer". The discount varies with the individual part.

He knows he gets 100% of my GM parts business, and I call him frequently for information. He will research stuff, provide copies of exploded view diagrams, etc.

He is simply a great guy and a great resource. I highly recommended developing a similar relationship with your local parts guy.

It's not always about getting the cheapest price.

Absolutely correct...service is part of the deal.

But when you walk in with over $500 of part numbers, all the work is already done, and the dealer won't even consider working on the price from retail, it's not good service.

Some people have parts counter people/management that understand this. Others are just indicative of GM's overall problems.
