Whats so special about them? Just curious. I don't know much about them... I used to have an S15 and it wasn't anything special..

people like to collect them for some reason.. why?

Theres one in a Regina forum with 40K miles on it that an owner is fairly proud of.

are they worth much?:dunno:

because they have a turbo charged 4.3 and all-wheel drive.. I have seen videos on youtube were they smoke some pretty fast cars.

One of GMs great but short lived ideas, like the Grand National.

Cool videos, its fun to watch those old motorweek shows

Seems like these haven't really caught on much though yet, are they not very popular? Compared to the grand national or other classics? I googled searched some for sale and they seem to run anywhere between 5 to 15 grand depending on mileage and condition. This one looks alright, not perfect though:

Yeah, the Typhoons don't carry the value of the GN or Syclone. The Syclone was much quicker since it was so much lighter. I've been wanting one for a long time, but it's kinda hard to justify buying it.

I love the Typhoon. If I didnt have to worry about smogging it I would get one. I used to have a 85 s-10 blazer that I slammed and put a 305 /700r4 from a 86 camaro. That was a fun lil truck to drive.

I love the typhoon, alot better than a cyclone.

I would buy one in a second but most folks around here seem pretty dang proud of them

They are kewl trucks, with a nitch market...

I have seen them go for as much as 20k for a clean one with low miles...

I prefer the cyclone myself. I test drove one new, was a crazy ride back in 92.

its not something thats gonna "catch on" they have a cult following. and you're either in or have no idea what they are.

17k is pretty high. I see them go for 10-15k around here in nice shape.

Jeez, guys, a "cyclone" is a weather event, and the Syclone was a GMC haul-ass truck.:doah: Spelling does count, especially when you're searching to buy one.

Here's a vid done to honor the Syclone/Typhoon trucks.

I loved these trucks when they came out! I dreamed about getting one. Instead I got a 85 S-10 blazer 4x4 with limited slip rear. My first owned 4x4 I purchased with my own money. Ever since I've owned a s-10 pickup or blazer since that day all with my full size GMC Jimmy. Add a Typhoon or a Syclone to the stable and I would be almost complete on my vehicle collection!!!

Ooo those trucks make my zq8 dime truck look so poserish. Not much extreme in an Extreme when considering what s10 had in it's history. Wish they hadn't dropped the name and did something "great" for the model.

I'd still drop in a V8 over spending the money on one. But they are SUPER cool.

Seeing as how this got bumped ...

I used to own one of those trucks. I found one which had 5,500 miles on it (yes, really) which was as clean as the day it came off the showroom floor. I paid $24,500 for it.

Technically they have the 4.3L V6 that was turbocharge and air-to-water intercooled, with the Astro van AWD system. It was rated at 250 hp and 350 ft/lbs. I had mine dyno'd and it was closer to 350/hp and 450 ft/lbs. 0-60 times were around 4.3 seconds in my truck.

The first time I took it to the track I was talking to some guy who I was lined up with a 1990-something Corvette. He had done tons of mods, basically everything except cracking the block. Intake, exhaust, ECM, you name it. I told him my truck was stock. We raced and I ran that 12.9 and left him standing at the starting line. I tried to talk to him afterwards but he walked away. Guess he was pissed he spent so much money on a slow car and got smoked by my little SUV.

That truck was one of the fastest vehicles I have ever driven. I used to street race it and absolutely nothing touched it, not even the Porsche 911 - until we hit 100 mph and then drag limited me and he would pass me. I'd buy another one if I had a big garage and lots of money. The non-black or white trucks are worth the most. If you can find a green, red, or blue one you have something special (assuming it's OEM).

The coolest part about that truck was launching it. You'd stand on the brake as hard as you could and press down the gas to build boost. There was so much power and torque that the truck would start to lean over to the right. Then BOTH left tires would start to push through the brakes and jerkily spin on the pavement. I'd always be sure to line up on the right side of whoever I was racing so I could see the look on their face. Seeing the Typhoon breaking free on BOTH wheels was so very cool.

When I let go of the brake, I would usually be across the intersection before they were across the crosswalk. Needless to say I never bothered going much faster after that and would have to wait for whoever it was to catch up so we could laugh and chat.

Ah, to be young and foolish and flush with cash again!

No pics of it but some years ago I helped a buddy build a "clone". He head the 4wd part of it done before I got to know him. Cept we put a built 383 in it. Man that truck as fast. Someone used to sell a body kit that looked alot like the factory kits.

I would love to own one

I've got a Syclone. They are fragile, parts are expensive and hard to find, but man are they fun to drive.

The bodywork is extremely expensive. Its cheaper to build a roller that it is to build a clone anymore.

I wonder how much of the Astro van AWD they used, there are tons of those out here and some S10's might be a fun project

Had 3 of them. My last Typhoon-

Sorry for the HUGE pic
Weak link is the 700R4 when you start making power. Will probably buy another and do a twin turbo SBC or LS3 with a 4L80. They're getting rare and harder to find in good shape, rust free. Stock vs stock, they're almost as quick as the Syclone (same drivetrain), just weigh 300lbs more.

For those that said "Cyclone", you should be slapped!:shame:
