Going back to single exhaust...DONE!

I've got a 50 series on my 88. It is plenty loud at idle and when you get on the gas, but it does quiet down a bit on the interstate. But you can still hear it, so it's not that quiet. I've got a friend that put a 70 series on his 02 Silverado at the same time I put the 50 series on the Blazer. I liked the 70 series a lot more- still get a nice exhaust note, still loud when you really romp on it, but a lot more quiet at idle/on the highway. That's what I'll go to if/when I ever replace the muffler.

Prius, gah! Not a chance.

Now one of those Fiskar or other bad-a$$ electric cars ... maybe! But they cost $100k so not likely! :(

Quiet...that's what I need.
Maybe I'll give Walker a try. And I looked the current Flowmasters. No part number just pat pend numbers. Doesn't really matter what they I guess. They are coming off.

I don't want to hear the exhaust at all. I intend to run a resonator and converter along with a quiet muffler. Neither are really expensive all things considered.

What the hell! Doesn't anyone run dual glass packs anymore? LOL!

man, I remember driving from Oregon to the bay area in a 86 pickup with dual 40s that dumped under the cab. After 8 hrs I thought my head was going to explode! Guess I'm getting old and like my quiet too.

It doesn't help when there is no insulation in the cab. Well, and the muffler has a hole in it, but that's beside the point. :) Anyone else not able to use a hands-free phone in their truck due to the noise? (Or radio, or passengers, etc) That bugs me.

Shoot, even with the exhaust in check, most my old rigs have enough air leaks at highway speeds to make blue tooth useless.

Wow. Mine sure isn't silent at 80mph on the freeway, but i'm more than able to talk on the phone.

33" BFG's, 4.10's 50 series flow masters.

Aerodynamics of a barn.

My burb actually isn't too bad and its got no interior. But my 82 pickup I used to have was terrible with 35s , and dual turbos and horrible air leaks at the wing windows

I still run dual glasspacks on my woods truck but on my 00 sierra I'm running single 3" with a hooker aerochamber muffler. It's very loud when ya lay into it but has a nice rumble cruising around with very minimal resonate sounds in the cab.

I tried dual knock off 40 series flows on my 00 GMC and it would rattle the trim on the back of the inside of the cab cruising down the highway. They got cut off for the new single exhaust. I hate flowmasters but that's my opinion and wouldn't run them on anything.

Flowmaster anything is going to be loud. I had to put a cat on my 94 to pass inspection and it quieted the truck down quite a bit. It also dropped a few up at the same time. If you want quiet but still have a good flow I've heard great things from magnaflow. Or just do a stock replacement and you know it'll be quieter than any aftermarket muffler. Be cheaper that way too.

I should add that I have a cat on my single exhaust setup which I mentioned above.

I have a Magnaflow muffler on my K5, it's not loud at all but if you really do want it quiet it may still be too much.

All good info. Really like the real world experiences.
I'm leaning towards the magnaflo, walker and stock replacement.
Doesn't need to be dead silent, just less douche baggy. We have yell at each other @ 70mph.
I have to re-do door seal and dynamat thru-out the truck when I put new carpet in. Both those should help as well.
However, it's gonna have to wait. Rear main seal decided this morning it was time to let go.
My truck hates me...

Bummer on the rear main seal. Here is some interesting reading..

Honestly, you could put just about any muffler on there and its going to be quieter than a 40 series Flowmaster. Them things are loud, I had one for a long time and took it off. Magnaflow is good, my dad has one on his Whipple boosted 5.3 Suburban and it sounds real good.

Dynomat will make that thing a lead casket. I used it in my Burb and the doors sound like they are filled with concrete when you shut them. Stuff works wonders.

Honestly I was really pleased with how the stock diesel K5 mufflers sounded on my truck.

If Dynomax/Walker makes replacement ones (and I'm sure they do) that would probably be a good choice. They were quiet, but what you could hear on acceleration was throaty. Just not obnoxious. Then again they are duals, not sure that the inlet/outlet is large enough for singles. A '90-91 diesel might have been different, I notice that the gas versions appear to have gone 3" sometime after 1985.

Just "flip through" the walker catolog at various aplications. I chose the muffler i want because its 3"in/out and has the largest case.

BTW for pricing, just take any of the walker numbers and punch them in on summitracing.com.
