Going topless with a diesel

OK, or not worth the effort because of noise and fumes?
Topless is better than top on and rear window down.:doah:
I ran my diesel noisy smelly K5 topless most of the time, it only smoked me when I had the top on with tailgate window open.

2nd this, and advise to keep the side exit pipes, they worked the best for me in keeping exhaust out of every combination of top I tried. Still bad with rear window down but better than any other exit system.

That is also true for not only diesel but gas trucks.
My bro's 73 was killing us because he always left the rear window open, until we figured that out, he had done the turn down behind the axle and that was bad.
put back the original style side exits and things were much better.

Okay someone come over here and help me get the top off the Jimmy I will report back with results.

I know back window down sucks, and I won't do it with my kids in the back.

In my gasser, the exhaust tip is pointed down (PO). If I square it off like the factory will that help with the fumes? I didn't realize that made such a difference....:dunno:

One ride in a friends diesel pickup with dual stacks, convinced me NOT to put them on my truck!...soon as you open the rear slider, you turn GREEN and want to hurl from the fumes!...:doah:..they do LOOK cool though....I'd say in a K5,the top off is best, the more FRESH air curculating around you,the better!!...I found having a "spoiler" over the tailgate window helped a lot to keep exhaust fumes from being sucked in the back window on my K5...on my '72 I had my tail pipes dump in front of the rear wheelwells, and I didn't have too many fumes bothering me--downspouts on my pickup, are not as good, the fumes will build up under the bed at stoplights...:eck16:..

The terms, Noisy, and Smelly. are only a matter of opinion.

I LOVE the sound and smell of diesel engines.

The smell of a poorly carburated gas engine makes me want to vomit.
