we (7 rigs from Topeka Ks ) are heading to Colorado top go wheeling over Memorial Day week. I have heard of lots of storms and another snow fall this morning.
Will any of this effect the trails in our area where we are going ?
we plan on doing Cactus Ridge Die trying, calamity Canyon, Scratch and dent, and Topless.
and then head to grand Junction area and do Billings and 21 road,
and then head to Carange canyon and chinaman gulch.

how much is desiel out there ? here it has just hit about 4.30 a gallon and gas is 3.65

NOt sure if you have to be a member to go in the regional forums or not but if you can check out the Rocky Mountain region. THe CO crew is planning a run down there that same weekend.

that would be great to meet up with some guys from out there, we have two guys that have wheeled out there 3-4 times, but the rest of us will be new to the area,
It should be fun as long as the weather is decent , wil it be crowded ? are we going to waiting on people to get out of the way ?

I think it is usually pretty crowded down there that weekend. I think if you hit the trail as early as possible (sun up) you should beat most of the crowd though.
Not sure how the weather will be, they have been getting snow in the high country the last few days and it has been rainy and cold everywhere else. Hopefully it clears up by then for you guys!

I usually spend Memorial day in Montrose but due to logistics for a few members of the group we are not going there.

Montrose is always busy over Memorial day. There are a few large groups that run the trails every year. One of them gets on the trails about 9:30 and does a good job of keeping moving. The others don't.

The locals seem to be the ones that show up a bit later and tend to take a bit more time on the trails. It's their back yard and they enjoy their day on the trails.

Any trail you are on will take you time. The best I have done is running three trails in one day in Montrose and I did one of them alone at night during a search for my group. (Die trying in the dark alone in 30 min or less):pimp1:
Most of the time we have been able to run two of the trails a day starting at around 10:00 and getting to camp at about 7:00 to 8:00 at night. Starting earlier would help but sleeping in is nice too.

I don't know how many days you are planning to be here but you have some big plans. That list of trails is like a week of wheeling.

Diesel in Glenwood Springs is somewhere near $4.60 gal:eek1:

thanks for your help,, we do plan on a 4 days on the trail and one day site seeing.
$4.60 for desiel, thanks for the heads up

77k5 - we might be on topless on monday,, 21rd is on wednesday schedule.

Where I live diesel and gas prices are about the same prices you quoted. That means in the Junction/Montrose area they are probably at least a nickle higher. Going through the mountains you'll see the prices miniwally quoted.

Scratch & Dent won't take you long. We did it with 3 rigs about a month ago and it took us less than an hour. We spent more time on Topless I think almost 6hrs, but we're no pros and still learning the ropes on the harder stuff. There are 2 videos from that trip in this thread: http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230509.

You can also check colorado4x4.org for some current trail info. There is a forum called "Trip Reports" that you can check for some more recent trips to the different areas. I know there's one in there for Scratch & Dent and Calamity from this past weekend. Also there are some recent reports for Billings Canyon.

There shouldn't be any issues with snow. The places you are going are in relatively low elevations, so there won't be any snow coming that will stick around longer than 24hrs. The only concern you may have is if it storms while you are traveling across the state. Some of the passes can still get good snow this time of the year.

When we were out in Montrose last year with miniwally the only place I remember there being a wait was on Cactus II. But then I was only out there one day - a Saturday.

I'm running Topless with 38377k5 on Monday, so maybe we'll see you out there.

Oh yeah, my e-mail is [email protected] if you'd like a cell number in case you have any trouble. I live an hour north of Denver, but I'll be out around Montrose for Memorial Day weekend. Plus I have a lot of numbers for the other CO guys that might be closer than me if you do have trouble.

cool video man, and it would be nice to hook up with some locals that now the area and some cool places to go, and if we need any parts,:eek1:I got your email so it is only a matter of time, 10 days !!!
