there's a good chance i might have found me a Dana 60. problem is it's in a Dodge. from what i remember it will work right?? haven't really looked at it real close but he tells me that it is definately a 60. what do i look for that might stand out. i know it is if it has kingpins instead of balljoints right??

i know there a search feature and i think i have an idea of what to look for.
when i looked earlier i couldn't really tell by the axle guide. (computer was here and the truck was elsewhere)
would $800 be a bad deal if for sure it was a 60?? i know everyone here has atleast paid that for just a frontend.
it's a complete Dodge truck with flatbed. not sure the year but thinkin maybe 80's (400 BB/747 tranny/not sure transfer). what can i expect from a rearend and will i be able to use it?? i already have a 14sf and this truck is a 14ff. any suggestions would be appreciated ;)

a dodger 60 will work you will have to pry the leaves out about a half inch (i think) to make it work...should have a d70 rear if its a 1 ton...look for kingpins and just huge tubes and diff...also there is something with the outers that make them weeker but i can remeber what it is..

well i hear alot about using 1410 yokes. no idea if that's for the axles or the pinion yoke though. i'm not very familiar with 60's. really not very familiar with anything bigger than 1/2 ton. that's all i have ever ran. have a truck with 44's but i only drove it for a short time

well i'm gonna keep my eyes open for threads on these cause if i get the truck i'm gonna need all the help i can get to beef it up. is it true the first thing to do is to buy the crossover setup or w/e it is. heard it helps out too

Alot of parts are the same as GM 60s. But some of the diffs are spring pad width, brake lines, shock mounts, u-joint and there is something else, but can't remember. But all those differences can be fixed easy enough. The yokes that Dodge uses is retarded, they are smaller than a 1310. Best thing to do is find a Ford or GM 60 or 70 rear and take the yoke....

they are slightly narrower then a chevy, like 1/2 on each side or something, but i read that someone sells something to make it a little safer..really broad, i'm out of my mind right now but i think blue torch sells it actually.

so $800 really is a good deal. i mean it has a nice flat bed and other parts which i can part out. that's if i can get anyone to actually buy dodge parts :D

True that.I put one under a 90 K-5 one time and we had to take a hi-lift jack and spread the leaf's.One thing to watch out for on Dodge 60's is they use a 61 front under the 89ish model Cummins trucks. They will be 3:07 ratio and can be changed to a lower gear but it's a big hassle. If you find one that is a 3:07 it will be a 61.I think the 70's that were under the rear of those trucks was oddball also.

Tie rod is ~1.5" higher on the Dodge. WMS is most likely 67.5" (Chevys are 69.5", there are a few 69.5" wide Dodge 60's). Spring pad width is 1/2" wider. Dodge have external hubs which tend to be weaker and are tougher to find (both used and new/aftermarket).

Chevy and Dodge 60's are pretty similar otherwise. $800 is a good deal IMO.

yeah and they will look like this.

watch out for the d70 front also..they are closed knuckle

The closed knuckle ones also have the tierod behind the axle and hang down real low.

ok so i might be more confused then i thought. what am i looking at here? the front i'd assume cause of rotors. as for the closed knuckle. i have an idea what this is just want clarification

That picture is showing what external hubs look like (those are actually drive flanges).

I couldn't find pictures of a dana 70 front but here is an open knuckle dana 44:

ahh gotcha. i know for sure it's an open knuckle. i shoulda knew that one. i also have a open knuckle 44 in my truck.

only thing is i don't exactly understand "external drive flanges" and what they are good for. i'll do a search and see what i get

The drive flanges are the original full time hubs. They are splined on the outside and bolt directly to the hub.You can buy lockout's for them but they are hard to find, expensive, and the lockout will stick way out of the hub.I have saw them get knocked off before on rocks.
