Good Gears

this is a newbi question but here t goes, can someone explain what the gear ration means and stands for, for example 4.56 gears means what, i was wondering if someone could help me out with this. thanks guys

gear ratio is the number of times your driveshaft turns in relationship to your axle shaft. 4.56:1 means the driveshaft makes 4.56 turns to make the axleshaft turn once.
