I have a 1984 K30 Factory BigBlock (which means it has the different motor mounts, and the pain in the butt crossmember for the One Ton Frame). My crossmember clearance to the oil pan is crappy and my crossover is close, so I am installing one of ORD's Crossmembers, and am installing new poly motor mounts from Kurt at DIY4x.

So, while I am in there basically doing all the hard work, I thought this might be an excellent time to upgrade my Oil pan to a more offroad friendly one, as well as stick in a amtching, better oil pump.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I looked on Summit and there seem to be a lot of choices, and I was looking for some thoughts from you all.

Also, it seems that the one piece gaskets are better? Any thoughts there?

Lastly, I don't really care about color/bling, etc, and I am open to anything that isn't Chrome. :)

Thanks!

I don't know of any part numbers or measurements , as I am a small block guy , but you may want to start with some baffled road race type of pan . They usually come a little wider , but not any taller . Check the driveshaft clears .

Road race pans need to control oil in corners both ways , and for stopping and accelerating .l

Agreed, the moroso pan works well on my bbc with a stock volume pump. My relief spring is set for 70lbs or so which is good for keeping filters alive. You might consider blocking the bypass for better filtration depending upon how you feel about that.

Stay away from any high pressure or high volume oil pumps. GM engines already get too much oil up top and a high volume will only make it worse leaving little to no oil in the pan at the worst moment. Also make sure you have someone tack weld the oil screen to the pump, BBC's for some reason like to have the screen fall off. ALL screens on BBC from the factory that i've ever seen were welded for this exact reason. SBC's are the same setup but for whatever reason they don't have a problem with this.

Scott, so you'd recommend a replacement stock pump with a new pickup to match whatever pan I get?

Yes. Nothing special needed. Just buy a stock melling pump and matching screen for whatever oil pan you go with. I would suggest buying the high performance oil pump driveshaft with the steel sleeve though.
