Is $4200 a decent deal for a motor/trans combo for a setup with less then 20K in milage on it? It was a rolled truck, no motor/trans damage. Also, how difficult would the swap be into my crew cab as far as motor and trans mount, crossmembers and what not? any ideas? who's done this swap?? I no nothing about diesels. Was that a good motor/trans yr? It's pretty much mine if I want it.

First let me say, I'm not "up" on D-max tech, but, that sounds like a great deal for the price/miles. I do believe 05' should be less emmisions stuff to deal with as opposed to a newer vintage. But I don't know how that may vary in CA.
Dmax's, along with any newer diesels will require ALOT of wiring to swap in, so you will need as much of the harness as you could get. It would be an awesome set up in the end though, a simple tuner and air upgrades and you're over 500hp and 1000tq with the ability to run a econ tune and pull 20+ mpg.
Wish I could offer up some better info, if it was a cummins swap I could give you better info ;)

I will have to varify the exact year, My friend said he thought it was the 05' which was suposed to be the last year DMax with the 5 speed Alison, but said it still might be an 06'. I remember now another friend was researching the best year and the LBZ 06.5/07 yr was the best suposedly. 05' heating issues someone said. I will just run a BIG rad.

Good price on that setup. The transmission sells for that much around these parts.

See if you can get the entire truck with the promise of returning anything you don't use to swap the engine around.

Keep in mind that the duramax turbo sits at the rear of the engine and will require some firewall modifications to make room for it. The wiring will not be very complicated (no worse than a LSx swap), so don't worry about that. You will need to modify your core support to put a big rad in, and make room for the intercooler as well.

I've been really tempted to swap the turbo 6.2L in my K5 out with a duramax someday, could be a ton of fun!

The story goes something like this. My friend that ran a street rod shop for about 5 or 6 years, his partener bought this 1959 flat bed Chevy truck that he was going to restore for a shop truck to tow his box trailer with all their aftermarket parts they sell at all the swap meets and for a advertising truck for their shop. He found this rolled 05'/06' Chevy Duramax truck somehow thru somebody and thought that was a perfect motor combo to graft into the 59' flatbed truck.

So he picked up I believe the complete chassis for an unknown to me amount. No sheet metal what so ever, but I believe the harness was 100% complete and of course the drivetrain was complete still in the chassis. I have seen the frame with the motor/trans/rearend myself. I used to go to their shop all the time so I have seen it. He's had it for a few years and never got around to restoing the 59. They kind of shut down the shop and his partener only sells products now.

So I think he's lost intrest in the resto and swap so, he's sellin the complete chassis and or motor/trans combo. Thats the way I understand it. Would it be easier to swap sheet metal then drive train? get my Crewcab on the 05' chassis instead?? Better frame, no major mods other then to sheet metal more then likely? I don't think the frame was bent in the roll over.
